Western Pocono Lioness

Western Pocono Lioness Club held its ice cream social and meeting last week.

Various reports dealt with the upcoming fashion show the club is hosting at Hideaway Hills Golf Course in Kresgeville. The club also heard from its Monroe County Conservation camp sponsored student, Joseph Hulton, via a letter.

It was announced that the District Lioness Rally will be held at Cherry's in Kresgeville at 6 p.m., Oct. 8. Members are encouraged to make their reservation with club President Virginia Lamendola for that event as well as letting her know of their plans to attend the NEPA Eye Bank's 55th anniversary dinner in Harrisburg on Oct. 13.

The next board meeting will be Sept. 12, and the general club meeting will be held Sept. 26, beginning with a covered dish dinner. The speaker that evening will be from the Center for Vision Loss.

On Friday the club's Fun Bunch will meet at 11:30 a.m., at Chestnuthill Township Park, Route 715, in Pavilion #1, for a Picnic in the Park.

Participants should bring their own lunch and drink, and any game or activity that she likes.

In case of stormy weather the group will meet at a local restaurant for lunch.

PVEN board

The board of directors for the Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network will meet at 9 a.m., Thursday.

Girl Scout Troop 411

The church basement of Zion Lutheran is where members of Girl Scout Troop 411 will meet from 6-7:30 p.m., Thursday.

Monroe Seniors

Monroe Seniors meet each Wednesday and Friday at Zion Lutheran Church in Brodheadsville, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the church's Parish Hall.

PV Choral Society

The Pleasant Valley Choral Society will practice Friday, beginning at 7 p.m., at Zion Lutheran in Brodheadsville.

Youth Group meets

Effort UMC's Youth Group will meet at 7 p.m., Friday.

Religious education

Our Lady Queen of Peace will begin its religious education classes on Saturday, Sept. 8, with upper level Confirmation meeting from 9-10 a.m.

Rally Day at Zion

Rally Day will be held at Zion Lutheran on Sunday, Sept. 9, beginning at 9:15 a.m. It is the first day of Sunday School.

Worship services are at 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m., with this Sunday's second service being followed by a potluck luncheon and dessert extravaganza

Two events

The Seekers Bible Study of Effort UMC will hold its first official meeting at 10 a.m., Monday, Sept. 10.

At 7 p.m., the Church's United Methodist Women will welcome any woman of the church at its monthly meeting. The speaker will be Phil Horne and the topic is Identity Theft.

Arvilla Bodemer will lead the devotions and also serve as hostess, along with Reta Romanco.

The All Sports Club meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m., Monday, Sept. 10 in Pleasant Valley High School library.

Knit & Crochet

Zion Lutheran's Knit & Crochet group will meet at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 11. Anyone wishing to join the group in doing good works, can meet with them at the church at that time.

PVMS group

The Pleasant Valley Middle School PAC/PTO will meet at 9 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 12

Mortgage burning

Effort UMC will hold a mortgage burning service at 5:30 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 29. Former pastors who have served the congregation during the years of mortgage time will be invited to attend.

A celebration will follow the service.
