Welcome to the postseason version of OVERTIME.

The TIMES NEWS has four teams Pleasant Valley, Northern Lehigh, Tamaqua and Marian playing in the District 11 playoffs this weekend.Only twice since the District football playoffs began in 1984 has the area had more teams qualify.In both 2006 and 2007, years where the playoff brackets were increased to eight teams in Class A, AA and AAAA, the area had six teams in the field. In the 29 years of D-11 grid playoffs, the next highest total prior to this year had been three teams. That happened six times (1997, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2008, 2010). Only twice in history (1986, 1990) has the area been shutout of the District 11 playoffs.Of the four area teams that are in Districts this year, Northern Lehigh has made the most appearances. The Bulldogs have now qualified in 14 of the 29 seasons, including the last four years in a row.Marian is next in total appearances with 12. The Colts are returning to Districts this season for the first time since 2008.For Pleasant Valley, this will be its fourth D-11 playoff berth overall and second in the last three years.For Tamaqua, it will be just the second district berth in school history. The Raiders also qualified in 2009.*****LEAP OF GREATNESS ... Brandon Leap of Pleasant Valley tossed two touchdowns on Friday against Stroudsburg to increase his seaosn total to 21.Over the last 25 years, Leap is one of just seven TIMES NEWS area players to throw 20 or more touchdown passes in a season.The others are:* Jim Thorpe's Corey Cinicola (27 in 2008; 24 in 2007).* Panther Valley's Cazzie Kosciolek (25 in 1992).* Pleasant Valley's Derrik Walling (23 in 2010).* Lehighton's Josh Agosto (21 in 2010).* Panther Valley Casey Lawrence (21 in 2009).* Lehighton's Brandon Williams (21 in 2007).Leap was the only quarterback to make news by throwing a pair of touchdown passes last week.Tamaqua's Nate Edmonds also threw two TD passes in his team's win over Marian. That brought Edmonds' total to 17 for the season, surpassing the mark of 16 that Geoff Kruczek set during the 1991 season. TIMES NEWS' records date back to the 1987 season and no player since then has throw more TD passes in a season then Edmonds.*****CENTURY MARK ... Lehighton's Jacen Nalesnik scored two touchdowns and kicked three extra points in his team's win against Jim Thorpe on Saturday. The 15 points brought Nalesnik's season total to 100 points.Nalesnik, who tallied 145 points a year ago, became just the third Lehighton player to record back-to-back 100-point seasons.The other two Indians players to accmplish the feat were Robbie Frey (2005, 2006) and Clayton "Skimmer" Andrews (1986, 1987).Nalesnik is the 10th player in the TIMES NEWS area to have back-to-back 100-point season since 1970. Tamaqua beat Marian, 12-0, on Saturday.The last time Tamaqua scored 12 points or less and won a game was Sept. 23, 2005 when it edged Mahanoy, 12-6, in overtime.It's been even longer since there was a combined total of 12 points or less in a Tamaqua game. The last time that hapened was Oct. 8, 2004 when the Raiders fell to North Schuylkill, 9-0.*****GREAT BEAR PAIR ... Pleasant Valley's Sekou Jones had 84 yards receiving Friday night against Stroudsburg. That brought his season total to 520 yards.Teammate Andrew Romeo already passed the 500-yard mark earlier this season and currently has 652 yards.Over the past 20 years, they are just the fifth duo to accomplish this feat.The others were:* Tamaqua's Anthony Bumbulsky and Caleb Shilko (2008).* Jim Thorpe's Gabe Robinson and Don Evans (1999)* Tamaqua's Vince Boyer and Noel Powell (1998)* Panther Valley's Fenton Black and Brad Miller (1991 and 1992).*****PASSING FANCY ... Jim Thorpe's Pat Duvigneaud tossed an 11-yard touchdown pass to Ryan Saunders last Saturday's in the Olympians' loss to Lehighton.With the scoring toss, Duvigneaud earned the distinction of throwing at least one TD pass in every one of Thorpe's games this season.In the past 25 years, the Olympian quarterback is just the third player to accomplish that feat. Jim Thorpe's Corey Cinicola did it during the 2008 campaign while Panther Valley's Casey Lawrence also did it in 2009. Duvigneaud and Cinicola achieved this during a 10-game season while Lawrence did it in all 12 of his team's games.
