State police at Schuylkill Haven reported investigating several crashes along Schuylkill County roadways, including two hit and runs in which the wanted driver turned himself in to troopers the following day.
The hit and run occurred about 6:18 p.m. on Friday, May 11, at the intersection of SR61 and Seven Stars Road, in North Manheim Township. Troopers said Stanley J. Jalonski Jr., 72, of Pottsville, was attempting to make a left hand turn while southbound onto Seven Stars Road and did so without yielding the right -of-way to a northbound vehicle operated by Glenn R. Smith, 56, of South Abington, Lackawanna County.
As the signal began to change Jalonski turned. Smith applied the brakes on his 2000 Mazda Protege but was unable to stop and the front of it struck the passenger side rear bumper area of Jalonski's 2007 Chevrolet Malibu. The impact ripped the bumper off the Malibu.
After impact Jalonski fled the scene. The next day he came to the barracks and admitted being involved in the crash.
No one was injured. Charges will be filed against Jalonski, troopers added.
The second hit and run occurred about 2:45 a.m. on Sunday, May 13, along S. Coal St., in Port Carbon. Troopers said Toni M. Chia, 27, of New Philadelphia, was operating a 1999 Ford Taurus northbound when, for unknown reasons, her vehicle struck the left rear of a 2001 Cadillac STS parked off the side of the road. After impact Chia fled the scene and returned to her home and parked behind her residence. A witness observed the crash. Chia is facing several motor vehicle code violations, troopers said.
Troopers probed a crash on Friday about 6:50 p.m. along SR61 in North Manheim Township. Troopers said a 1997 Jeep Wrangler, operated by a 17-year-old male from Seltzer, struck the rear of a 2007 Chevrolet Suburban, driven by a 16-year-old male from Pottsville, while both were northbound.
A passenger with the 17 year-old, a 16-year-old male from Schuylkill Haven, sustained a injury to his left arm but did not require immediate medical attention.
A one vehicle crash was reported about 5:10 p.m. on May 10 along Sunbury Road in Foster Township. Troopers said Robert E. Kreisher Jr., 51, of Milton, Northumberland County, was driving a 2007 Volvo truck tractor with trailer eastbound when he failed to negotiate a curve.
The load of mufflers he was hauling shifted and caused the rig to turn onto its side. The truck crossed the double yellow line and traveled about 164 feet before completely landing on the drivers' side.
After turning onto the drivers' side both the cab and trailer slid about 44 feet before coming to rest facing southeast on the south shoulder of the road.
Kreisher was slightly injured and taken to the Schuylkill Medical Center-S. Jackson St., Pottsville, by Minersville ambulance. Charges will be filed against Kreisher, troopers added.
