Emily Baumgardt, a third grader in Mrs. Deborah Hard's class at Towamensing Elementary School, won first place in the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 899 of Walnutport's essay contest in the third and fourth grade level. The title of the contest was "How Can I Show Patriotism in My Community." Ruth Porter from the Auxiliary, presented a certificate and $25 to Emily at a recent awards program at Towamensing. Aiden McCarty, also a Towamensing third grader, received a certificate of participation.
