The Tamaqua Area Animal Rescue (TAAR) held its fourth annual Dog Walk recently to raise monies for a permanent "no kill" shelter in Tamaqua to house lost and stray animals found in the borough and surrounding communities.
The walk was held along the Schuylkill Valley Heritage Trail located on Rt. 209 west of the borough. Currently the organization has to rely on foster families or the Hillside Animal Shelter in Pottsville to take in the animals until their owners are located or an adoption takes place.
Tamaqua Area Animal Rescue is a non-profit organization whose mission is to provide care and sanctuary for the lost, abandoned, abused, and neglected animals of Tamaqua and surrounding areas. To report any lost, found, or stray animals, find out how you can become a foster family, or help out in any other way, area residents are asked to call TAAR President Sue Schafer at (570) 527-6808 or visit their Facebook page. Schafer stressed her appreciation to the volunteers who helped put this together. She also mentioned that any volunteers and donations are greatly appreciated.
