Walling, Keer are All-State

Two TIMES NEWS area baseball players were recently named All-State by the Pennsylvania High School Baseball Coaches Association.

Pleasant Valley's Derrik Walling and Marian's JT Keer were both named second team All-State. Walling was named as an outfielder on the Class AAAA-AAA team while Keer was selected as an outfielder on the Class AA-A squad.Walling, a senior, was the TIMES NEWS Baseball Player of the Year this season and was also named the Mountain Valley Conference Most Valuable Player.Walling led the Bears in both home runs (3) and RBIs (22). He also had a .455 batting average and scored 29 runs. Batting in the No. 3 spot in the Pleasant Valley lineup, Walling struck out just four times in almost 100 plate appearances.Walling's hitting and defense helped Pleasant Valley reach the MVC title game for the second straight season.Keer, a senior, had an outstanding season to help Marian capture the Schuylkill League Division 3 championship.Keer led the Colts with a .544 batting average. He belted a pair of home runs, knocked in 16 runs, and scored 24. He added 10 stolen bases. Keer also filled in as an emergency pitcher, picking up one victory and striking out an impressive 22 batters in just 12 innings of work.In addition to Walling and Keer, there were 11 other District 11 players named to the All-State teams.On the Class AAAA-AAA squad, Jon Green of North Schuylkill was named first team designated hitter. Named to the second team were Nazareth catcher Justin Pacchioli, Liberty middle infield James McCarthy, and North Schuylkill outfielder Charlie Hutnick.Representing District 11 on the Class AA-A first team were outfielders Dylan Evans of Pen Argyl, Tanner Troutman of Tri-Valley, and Cole Weachock of Minersville along with shortstop Brett Bittiger of Pius X. On the second team were pitcher Ben Ancheff of Williams Valley, second baseman Phill Dohner of Schuylkill Haven, and designated hitter Matt Camilletti of Pius X.
