The Tamaqua Public Library, 30 S. Railroad St., is now offering free Wi-Fi.

To use the service, stop at the front desk for a login code to connect your laptop, iPad or other device.There is a dedicated black/white wireless printer on the Wi-Fi network available for use at 10 cents per page.The library also offers free use of headphones. People do not have to be members to connect.This project has been (partially) funded with federal Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) funds administered by the Office of Commonwealth Libraries.Spring Story Time is in its sixth week. This year's theme is "See if you can guess the theme of the day."Children ages 2-5 are invited to join library staff for stories and crafts in the children's area.Spring story time began March 7 and runs for 10 consecutive weeks, with the last sessions being held on May 9 and 10. Identical programs will be held every Monday and Tuesday 10-11 a.m. Call (570) 668-4660 for more information.The library's window display case currently features the covers of the books it received from a "We the People" grant.All the covers being displayed are available for checkout. The material the library received from the grant focus on freedom and history.A sampling of the books include the following: Chains, Lincoln in His Own Words, and Twelve Angry Men.In addition to the variety of books for all ages, there is also a Civil War film series.In keeping with the statewide initiative for promoting early literacy, the library will be participating in the PA One Book, Every Young Child program for 2011. The book this year is Whose Shoes: A Shoe for Every Job by Stephen R. Swineburn.Children will learn about different professions while being read to and enjoying a snack provided by the library.The craft this year will involve making a sneaker which they can practice lacing. Children participating in the program will receive a free paperback copy of the book, while supplies last.The program will be held on Saturday, May 14. The first two sessions are for Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten, and will be held from 9:30-10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. The last session is for grades one through five and will be held from 1:30-2:30 p.m.Call the library for more information and to register.
