Palmerton Area Library features several programs

Preschool Story Hour

Preschool Story Hour is held at 10:30 a.m. on each Friday through the school year. Programs are free and there is no preregistration. All are welcome. The last story hour will be June 11. During June and July story hour will be held on Thursdays at 10:30 through July 29. No story hours in August. Friday story hours will resume Sept. 3, 2010.Knitting ClubThe knitting club meets on the first and third Monday of each month at the library from 6-8 p.m. The club is free and new members are always welcome.Third Monday Book ClubAn adult book club is offered at the Palmerton Area Library on the third Monday of each month. Readers may bring a bag lunch and attend the book club from noon until 1:15 p.m. Stop in at the library for more information. New members are always welcome.On May 17 the club will discuss "The Hobbit" by

J.R.R. Tolkien with Ron Yeager. There will be no meetings June, July and August. The club will meet again on Sept. 20 with a discussion of "A Thousand Splendid Suns" by Khaled Hosseini.Yoga ClassesYoga classes are offered on Saturdays at 9 a.m. During the summer months an eight-week yoga session will be offered on Wednesdays at 9 a.m. beginning June 16 and running through Aug. 4. There is a fee.Book saleThe library sponsors a used book sale in the basement on a daily basis. New used books arrive daily along with videos, puzzles and CD's. Over 2,000 books and videos are available.Board of Trustees meetingThe board of directors of the library meets the third Wednesday of each month at the library at 4 p.m. Meetings are open to the public.Teen Advisory GroupThe Teen Advisory Group is for students in grades 7-12 and meets at the library after school on the first Wednesday of the month. The group has activities scheduled throughout the summer months. New members are always welcome. The group is currently remodeling and painting a section of the library basement.Tail Waggin' TutorsTail Waggin' Tutors, children reading to dogs sponsored by Therapy Dogs International, Inc. will be at the library every month on the second Saturday of the month from 11 a.m. until noon. Free to all area children, but they must register ahead of time for a time slot. The dogs will not be at the library during the months of June, July and August. Sessions will resume the second Saturday in September.Coming Events"A Senior Recital," an evening of classical music and Broadway show tunes will be presented by Joseph Plechavy and Randall Perry in the gallery on Friday, June 11 at 7 p.m. Donations will be accepted at the door. Refreshments will be provided by the Friends of the Palmerton Area Library.Summer readingKick-off rock concert for kids of all ages at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 16 at 7:30 p.m., featuring Ricky and Ovmium76 from Allentown.Grades K-1: Puppets, stories and crafts Fridays at 10:30 a.m., June 18-July 30.Grades 2-6: Books, games and activities Fridays at 10:30 a.m., June 18-July 30.Special Programs: June 18: "What's Weather?" presented by Super Science and Amazing Art; July 9: "What's In the Water?" presented by Dan Kunkle from the Lehigh Gap Nature Center.Preschool to age 5, Circle Time: Stories, songs, and movement on Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. June 17-July 29.No programs July 1-2.All programs are free and open to the public.
