Scranton bishop visits Marian

Bishop Joseph Bambera, Bishop of the Scranton Diocese celebrated Mass on Wednesday, Dec. 8 with the Marian High School community on the school campus in Hometown.

Sister Bernard Agnes, IHM principal at Marian extended the offer to celebrate Mass, observe the school and converse with the student body.Over 100 students from the Hazleton School District and Scranton Diocese currently attend classes at Marian.In 2007, Bishop Joseph Martino ordered the doors of Bishop Hafey High School, the only Catholic high school in the Hazleton area to close. Those students consolidated with three other diocesan high schools in Luzerne County. The Diocese of Allentown extended the opportunity for these students to attend Marian High School.Representatives from Marian Catholic High School visited Bishop Hafey to provide information about Marian's programs and activities. The delegation included Sister Bernard Agnes and other administrators along with a number of current students.Marian High School is located in Tamaqua in the Diocese of Allentown; however, bus transportation is provided by the Hazleton Area School District.Following the celebration of the Mass, Bishop Bambera had the opportunity to converse with the students at a reception held at the school.
