State police at Lehighton reported on the following driving under the influence (DUI) arrests.

On Friday, Jan. 21, about 9:34 p.m. troopers stopped John K. Peters, 50, of Kunkletown, operating a 1992 Chevrolet S10 pickup truck for a stop sign violation at the intersection of Christman and 57 roads, in Eldred Township, Monroe County.

State police at Fern Ridge reported investigating several crashes that occurred recently.

A one-vehicle crash occurred about 7 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 23, along SR115 at Old White Haven Lane, in Buck Township, Luzerne County.

Troopers said Doreen MacDonald, 54, of Wilkes-Barre, was driving a 1997 Volkswagen northbound and fell asleep at the wheel. The vehicle traveled off the road and struck a snow bank and then a utility pole.

MacDonald sustained a minor injury in the crash, troopers said. The vehicle had to be towed from the scene.

A Schuylkill County driver is facing charges following an incident in Lehigh County.

State police at Fogelsville said Tabatha Christi Reph, 26, of Orwigsburg, was driving a 1993 Chevrolet Lumina and was stopped about 12:49 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 22, for a traffic violation.

Reph was found to be under the influence and was in possession of a marijuana smoking device. She was placed under arrest and transported to the county DUI center for a blood test.

A Schuylkill County man was jailed on Sunday, Jan. 23, for violating a protection from abuse (PFA) order.

State police at Frackville said troopers were dispatched to 81 Valley St., Apartment 4, New Philadelphia, about 8:30 a.m. for a report of an argument. At the scene troopers found Douglas Downey Sr., of 110 Jackson St., Port Carbon, in the apartment of Suzette Marie Frantz. Frantz had a PFA order against Downey.

He was taken into custody and arraigned before duty District Judge James Reilly, of Pottsville, and committed to the county prison after failing to post bail.

A Schuylkill County driver is facing a charge of driving under the influence (DUI) following a one- vehicle crash.

State police at Frackville said about 5 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 23, troopers were called to a non-reportable crash along Interstate 81 in Kline Township. Troopers said Karen Lynn Garcia, 31, of Frackville, was driving a 1991 Toyota Corolla southbound when her vehicle entered the median and got stuck in snow.

A fire caused considerable damage to a Schuylkill County animal shelter.

State police at Frackville are investigating a fire that caused damage to the Ruth Stienert Memorial SPCA building at 18 Wertz Rd., in Pine Grove Township. The fire was discovered on Friday, Jan. 21, about 9 a.m. by workers at the facility.

Workers were able to save most of the animals housed at the facility. However, reportedly two parrots perished in the blaze.

The fire originated at or near the counter area, troopers said. No one was injured in the fire but damages were estimated at $30,000.

State police at Schuylkill Haven reported investigating a two-vehicle crash about 3:25 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 22, along Middlecreek Road in Tremont Township, Schuylkill County.

Troopers said Kerry T. Kintzel, 17, of Tremont, was driving a 2004 Dodge Dakota pickup truck southbound and failed to negotiate a right curve and lost control on the snow-covered road. The truck entered the northbound lane and struck a 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck operated by Michael R. Galavage, 35, of Tremont. No one was injured. Troopers said Kintzel was cited for driving too fast for conditions.

A Lehighton man was cited following an incident at a Carbon County club.

State police at Lehighton said the incident occurred about 9 p.m on Wednesday, Jan. 19, at the East Penn Sporting Club in East Penn Township.

Troopers said Jason C. McFarland, 34, is facing a charge of harassment for an incident in which he and Kimberly A. Sherry, 48, also of Lehighton, were involved in a physical altercation at the club.

A Schuylkill County man has been charged with retail theft following an incident at a county convenience store.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said Justin M. Neff, 25, of Minersville, was charged for an incident at the Sheetz Convenience Store located in North Manheim Township. Troopers said surveillance tapes showed Neff taking a quart of motor oil and a white jug that contained over $217 in U.S. currency that was being used for a Children's Christma party.

The incident occurred on Saturday, Jan. 22, aboaut 7:28 p.m.

A Monroe County driver is facing charges of driving under the influence (DUI) and drug counts following a vehicle stop that occurred about 8:13 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 20.

Pocono Mountain Regional police said Peter Groome, 63, of Pocono Lake, was stopped for speeding along SR940 westbound for going 61 miles-per-hour in a 45 zone.
