Pocono Mountain Regional police reported on two crashes investigated by officers, both occurring on Tuesday, Jan. 18.

The first crash occurred about 12:41 p.m. along Locust Ridge Road in Pocono Lake. Police said a 17-year-old male from Pocono Lake was driving northbound and he lost control of his vehicle due to snow and ice on the roadway. The vehicle impacted with a telephone pole along the berm. The teen was not injured. The vehicle had to be towed from the scene.

State police at Fern Ridge reported investigating a one-vehicle crash that occurred about 7 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 16, along Behrens Road in Penn Forest Township, Carbon County.

Troopers said Andrezej Jozwiak, 36, of Effort, was driving a 2001 BMW eastbound and approaching the intersection with Mountain View Road, when he lost control after attempting to negotiate a right curve. The car then left the road and struck a bridge abutment with the front front corner. The car came to rest at the point of impact, troopers said.

State police at Frackville reported a multiple vehicle pileup occurred along Interstate 81 near the Tremont exit in Schuylkill County. Troopers said the crashes occurred during the period of 1 and 6 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 19.

A total of seven tractor trailer rigs and four passenger vehicles were involved in the accidents with 11 people injured.

The crashes forced the closure of the interstate for three and a half hours. Multiple fire companies, ambulances and fire police assisted troopers at the crash scenes.

Troopers said the roadway was very icy at the time.

State police at Schuylkill Haven are investigating an incident of identity theft.

Troopers said unknown criminals opened a credit card acount in the name of Debra Michelle Neidlinger, 54, of Washington Township, and made various fraudulent purchases totaling $3,071 using the card.

State police at Lehighton are seeking two suspects and a vehicle driver involved in a burglary of a Monroe County residence. The break-in occurred at the home of Paul G. Viani, 76, of New York, N.Y., and located along Upper Smith Gap Road, in Eldred Township.

Troopers said two males gained entry to the home by smashing a window on a rear door. Once inside they attempted to steal the copper pipe from a baseboard radiator but were unsuccessful. They then removed a DeWalt cordless drill box and an extension cord from an upstairs room before fleeing.

Pocono Mountain Regional police are investigating a stabbing incident reported on Sunday, Jan. 16.

About 7 p.m. on that date officers responded to the Pocono Medical Center, in East Stroudsburg, for a reported stabbing. The victim, Daron Hesterbey, 22, of Blakeslee, told officers he was stabbed about 3 a.m. that day while at a party in the Pocono Country Place development. No other details were provided.

Pocono Mountain Regional police reported on the following arrests.

On Sunday, Jan. 16, about 2:51 a.m. officers conducted a traffic stop along SR196 at Simmons Road, in Tobyhanna, Coolbaugh Township, for an equipment violation.

While speaking with the occupants of the car officers detected the odor of marijuana emanating from inside the vehicle.

A search of the vehicle was conducted and found was marijuana.

A passenger, Fatima Mandiville, of Ellenville, N.Y., will be charged with possession of marijuana, police said.

A slush-covered Schuylkill County roadway was blamed for a two- vehicle crash that occurred about 9:35 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 18, along SR443, just west of Church Rd., in Wayne Township.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said Ryan Muldowney, 29, of Schuylkill Haven, was westbound and Tena Blankenhorn, 45, of Pine Grove, was eastbound.

Muldowney had negotiated a left curve in the road when he lost control of his 2005 Mazda 6 due to slush and snow on the road. The vehicle began to spin and entered the eastbound lane and into the path of Blankenhorn.

Coaldale police have arrested a borough man who allegedly kicked his girlfriend 10 to 15 times in the legs while wearing heavy boots.

Robert Joseph Anderson, 31, faces charges of domestic violence, simple assault and harassment stemming from the incident.

Police Chief Tim Delaney said Wednesday that he responded to a call at 236 East St. at 7:30 a.m. Jan. 12.

Anderson admitted to having drunk a few cans of beer after Delaney noticed the alcohol on his breath. Anderson also admitted he was aware of a protection-from-abuse order that the victim had taken out against him.

Coaldale Police Chief Tim Delaney on Wednesday provided details of a recent accident involving a trash truck.

A car driven by a male juvenile on his way to school at 7:23 a.m. Monday was turning right onto Route 209 when a Tamaqua Transfer and Recycling truck, facing east and driven by Daniel Robert Miller, Andreas, backed up and struck the car.

The car sustained extensive damage and had to be towed, but there were no injuries.

Officer Charles Blesse was driving behind the car and saw the accident happen, Delaney said.
