Summit Hill

Republicans to meet

The Summit Hill Republican Club will hold its monthly meeting on Thursday, June 10, at 7 p.m. in the Summit Hill Borough Hall.

Voter registration forms will be available.

President Stephen Redash will be in charge of the meeting and extends an invitation for all to attend. New members are always welcome.

Membership dues for 2010 will also be accepted at this time.

Legion to meet

The monthly meeting of American Legion Post 316, Summit Hill, will be held on Monday, June 14, at 7:30 p.m. in the post home. Commander W. Kevin O'Donnell will be in charge of the session.

A meeting of the Home Association will immediately follow the post's meeting.

Borough council

The monthly meeting of the Summit Hill Borough Council will be held on Monday, June 14, at 7 p.m. in the borough hall. Joseph Weber, president, will be in charge of the session.

Golden agers

The annual installation dinner of the Panther Valley Golden Agers was held May 24 at St. Joseph Hall in Summit Hill. Sixty members were present. The previous officers Ronnie Bazik, president; Shirley Pavlick, vice president; Tootsie Orsulak, secretary; and Mary Ciganek, treasurer; were reinstalled for the coming year. Bernice Strepko conducted the Installation.

Fifteen members of the chorus provided patriotic songs and hymns.

First Congregational Church

Graduates will be honored during the Morning Worship at 9 a.m. Sunday, June 6, at First Congregational Church.

The church board will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, June 7.

Vacation Bible school is scheduled for 6 to 8 p.m. June 21-25. Children and youth ages 3 to 18 are welcome. To register, call (570) 645-9426.

St. Paul Lutheran Church, Summit Hill, will hold its weekly worship service on Sunday, June 6, at 10:30 a.m. The Rev. John Hazel, pastor, will officiate.

The Coaldale Lions Club will meet on Tuesday, June 8, and Tuesday, June 22, at the Viennese Villa, 201 Ruddle St. Each meeting will begin at 5:45 p.m. and will be conducted by Robert E. Ames, president.

The June 22 meeting is the last indoor meeting until September.

On June 3 lottery the Panther Valley Senior Center will have bingo at 11 a.m.; and June 4 is Scattergories at 11 a.m.

On June 7 is penny game at 11 a.m.; June 8 is line dancing in the morning; June 9 is the Mother's Day and Father's Day celebration at 11 a.m.; June 10 is blood pressure screenings; June 11 is Wii dancing.

The Grand Army of the Republic Cemetery Association Board of Directors will be holding a rededication service on Saturday at 10 a.m. at the main gate of the Cemetery on the 500 block of East White Street.

The service will be followed by a free hosted walking tour of the cemetery grounds with an anecdotal and descriptive history of the cemetery and its residents as well as the monuments and their architecture.

Summit Hill

Lutheran Church

St. Paul Lutheran Church, Summit Hill, will hold a worship service with Confirmation on Sunday, May 30, at 10:30 a.m. The Rev. John Hazel, pastor, will officiate.

A special congregational meeting will be held on Sunday, June 6, immediately following the worship service.

Items to be discussed are the expense ratio with Zion Lutheran Church, Nesquehoning, the Simply Giving Program, and consideration of selling the parsonage.

After the Nesquehoning Borough Council came out of executive session for personnel reasons this week additional items were discussed. Missing from this month's council meeting were council men Michael Sniscak and Frank DiMiceli.

Mayor Tony Walck mentioned that the Memorial Day Parade in town will form at 8 a.m. at the Nesquehoning Recreation Center and begin march at 8:30 a.m.

The Crime Watch meeting will be held this month on June 15 at 7 p.m at the Borough Hall.
