St. John Lutheran

Wednesday Holden Evening Prayer Service with Holy Communion at St. John the Evangelist Lutheran Church, 1 E. Abbott St., Lansford, will begin at 7 p.m.

For those who wish to come early, a free simple supper will be served at 6 p.m. followed by a brief Bible study at 6:30.

For more information, or if the weather is questionable, call the Rev. Marjorie Keiter, (570) 273-4038. Service will not be held if school is canceled or dismissed early due to bad weather on Wednesdays.

Conservation Club

The next meeting of the Nesquehoning Conservation Club will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 2 at Maple Shade Meadows. Plans for the upcoming spring fishing derby will be discussed.

Fire companies learn

Members of the three fire companies in Nesquehoning gathered on Dec. 18 at the New Columbus Fire Company to learn about the use of a newly purchased, battery-operated combo Jaws of Life.

The $12,000 piece of equipment is the only one in the immediate area. The NCFC also plans to purchase the Rhino glass cutter in the near future.

Trinity Lutheran Church

The Rev. Roy H. Koehler will officiate at the 9:30 a.m. worship service at Trinity Lutheran Church, Lansford on Sunday, Dec. 23.

On Monday evening, Dec. 24, the Christmas Eve Candlelight Service of Holy Communion will be held at 8 p.m. The Rev. Koehler will also officiate at this service.

All are welcome to attend.

Grace Community Church

Grace Community Church of Lansford, 15 W. Ridge St., will hold a Christmas Eve candlelight service on Monday, Dec. 24, at 7 p.m. The Rev. Jeremy Benack will officiate.

First Congregational Church

Morning Worship will be held at First Congregational Church, Coaldale, at 9 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 23. Sunday School will take place at 10 a.m.

A Christmas Candlelight Service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 24.

The public is welcome to attend.

Golden Agers

The Dec. 11 meeting of the Panther Valley Golden Agers was opened with the Pledge of Allegiance and the singing of God Bless America. The hospitality committee for January and February are Ruth Ann Feane, Norma Lee Burke and Grace Moser.

The next meeting will be held on Jan. 14 at St. John's Slovak Lutheran Church, beginning at 1 p.m. New officers will be installed and if there is enough interest, Bingo will be played.

PV Women's Club

The Panther Valley Women's Club will hold its monthly meeting at the Viennese Villa Restaurant on Dec. 17 at 6:30 p.m. The evening will include special guests from the Tamaqua Community Arts Center performing Christmas carols. Summit Hill

Children's Christmas party

American Legion Post 316, Summit Hill, will hold its annual Christmas party for children of the community on Sunday, Dec. 15.

Santa will arrive at 1 p.m. to greet the children, who will be treated to hot dogs and soda.

Santa will present a Christmas stocking to each child.

Blood drive

St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 462 W. Ludlow St., Summit Hill, will sponsor a Miller-Keystone Bloodmobile on Thursday, Dec. 20, from 2 to 7 p.m., in the church social hall.

Golden Agers

On Monday, Dec. 10, at 1 p.m. the regular meeting of the Panther Valley Golden Agers will be held in St. John's Lutheran Church social hall.

At the Jan. 14 meeting, weather permitting, the newly-elected officers of the PVGA will be installed. New officers are Irene M. Hudasky, president; R. Shirley Pavlick, vice-president; Mary "Tootsie" Orsulak, secretary; and Francis Golder, treasurer.

Membership is open to anyone 55 years of age or older. Yearly dues are $3.

Golden Agers

The Nov. 26 meeting of the Panther Valley Golden Agers was conducted by President Ronnie Bazik. Sue Dopira read a Scripture Reading appropriate for the season. She was also recognized by her church, St. John The Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church, for her 40 years of service in religious instruction to the parish.

Ruth Ann Feane entertained the members with a selection of Christmas songs.
