Smoke detectors

The Jim Thorpe Fire Department has free smoke detectors for Jim Thorpe borough residents. If you need a smoke detector please contact Fire Chief Bill Diehm at (570) 325-3890. No commercial properties please.

Bereavement group

The bereavement support group of St. Joseph's parish will meet on Saturday, at 11 a.m. These weekly sessions will continue until March 5. The sessions take place in the rectory of the church and are open to anyone. If you wish more information call the rectory office, (570) 325-3731.

All night party

There will be a meeting for the parents of the Jim Thorpe Class of 2011 at 7 p.m., Jan. 20, in the Commons at Jim Thorpe High School.

Plans for the all night party will be discussed at that time.

The Jim Thorpe Democratic Association will hold its monthly meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 12, at 7 p.m. at the home of Edith Lukasevich, president. The address is 319 Center St.

Touchdown Club

Members of the Jim Thorpe Touchdown Club will meet on Monday, Jan. 10, at 6 p.m. in the commons area of the high school. Final plans for the upcoming awards ceremony will be made at this time. Parents and friends of football players are invited to attend the meetings.

Bloodmobile slated

The American Red Cross Bloodmobile will be stationed at Memorial Hall on Wednesday, Jan. 12, from 1-6 p.m. Donors must be 17 years of age and older to be eligible.

Christmas Holiday

Services slated

St. John's Lutheran Church, Sixth and North streets, has announced its Christmas Eve service. The service will begin with special music at 7 p.m. followed by the service of Holy Communion at 7:30. There will also be a service held on Christmas day at 9 a.m. There will be no service on Saturday evening this weekend or the next and there is no Sunday School on Sunday.

The Jim Thorpe Council of the Carbon County Chamber of Commerce will hold their annual Christmas party at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 16 at Pepperjacks Restaurant, 41 Broadway, Jim Thorpe. Everyone attending is asked to bring a non perishable food item for the food panty.

Toys for Tots

registration slated

This weekend, Dec. 10-11, will be the final two days for anyone that wishes to register for Toys for Tots. Registration is open to children up to 12 years of age and 14 for those with special needs. Registration is being held at the Salem Bible Fellowship Church, Mahoning Township.

The toy give away will also take place at the church on Dec. 18, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. If you have questions, please call Ed, (570) 325-2408.

Ecumenical service

The Thanksgiving Ecumenical service sponsored by the Jim Thorpe Ministerium, will be held on Saturday, Nov. 20, at 6 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church, North Street. Delivering the sermon will be the Rev. James Ward, of the Immaculate Conception Church. A time of fellowship will follow the worship service.
