Panther Valley library

Panther Valley Public Library March happenings

The Preschool Story Hour will begin again on Tuesday with a birthday celebration for Dr. Seuss.

Story hour will be held every Tuesday at 9:30 a.m.

Tax preparation assistance for seniors is offered on Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Seniors must call the library to schedule an appointment.

The Polish Heritage Discussion group will meet on March 11 and March 25 at 11 a.m.

Al-Anon meetings

Al-Anon group to meet Mondays at 7:15 p.m. at St. Katharine Drexel Church Hall, 120 E. Abbott St., Lansford.

Al-Anon is a nonprofit worldwide support organization helping families and friends of loved ones suffering from addiction.

Trinity happenings

Sunday worship with Holy Communion at Trinity Lutheran Church, 175 S. Third St., Lehighton, begins at 9 a.m.

Designated pastor, the Rev. Nancy Moore, presides.

Coffeehouse fellowship follows.

Sunday School classes meet for students ages 3 through grade 12 at 10:30 a.m. Level 1 and 11 (grades seven and eight) confirmation classes meet at 10:30.

First Tuesday quiet communion is March 3, 10 a.m.

Library story time

The Tamaqua Public Library's Spring Story Time session will begin March 17 and 18. The free sessions are open to preschoolers between the ages of 2 and 6.

This year's theme will be "Bursting Into Color."

Sessions will be held for 10 consecutive weeks, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, concluding May 20. In addition to story reading/telling, participants will learn new songs, design special crafts and enjoy a snack.

The library is holding a March Madness book sale, where all items are 10 cents each.

Historical society

The Chestnuthill Township Historical Society meeting is set for tonight, beginning at 7 p.m. at Chestnuthill Township Park, Brodheadsville.

It will be Show and Tell Night. Attendees are asked to bring an item, tell the story and pass it around.

Annual dues for 2015 can be paid now.

Theater auditions

The Tamaqua Area Community Theatre will be holding open auditions for its production of "Death of a Salesman." Actors 12 and older are needed.

A one-minute monologue is needed for the audition. The production company is able to provide sample material.

Auditions will be held March 6 and March 7, from 5 to 7 p.m. both days, at the Tamaqua Community Art Center, 125 Pine St., Tamaqua

Miller-Keystone Blood Drive

Miller-Keystone Blood Center's first 2015 Palmerton community blood drive will be from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. March 3 at the First United Church of Christ, next to Palmerton Borough Hall.

This drive is sponsored by Irene Shinsec, Bonnie Snyder, and John Oblick, all in memory of Jean Behler. Sponsorship pays for the extra donor refreshments and church custodian.

Although the Palmerton area is fortunate to have many donors who appear at nearly every blood drive, there is always a need for new and occasional donors.

Lenten Devotions

Lenten Devotions will take place at The Shrine of St. Therese Lisieux, St. Francis of Assisi Parish, located at Angelini and Garibaldi avenues, at 6 p.m. every Wednesday during Lent, beginning Wednesday and ending April 1.

Devotion includes Stations of the Cross, Novena Prayers to St. Therese of Lisieux, and Benediction.

Schuylkill Chorus

The Tamaqua Area School District's Music Department is hosting the 2015 Schuylkill County Choral Festival, an annual four-day event, which will conclude with a public concert on Saturday.

The chorus features students from grades 8 through 12 from 13 participating high schools throughout the county, who were selected to participate after a competitive vocal audition, held in October.

Kindergarten registration

Registration for kindergarten classes in the Tamaqua Area School District for the school year 2015-2016 will be held March 23, 24 and 25 at the Rush Elementary School and March 26 at the West Penn Elementary School. Registration hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at both schools.

Registration packets will be available at all three of the district's elementary schools as of Monday or at the Tamaqua Area School District website, Appointments will then be scheduled for March.
