Summit Hill

Food Pantry distribution dates

Food distribution dates for the pantry are as follows:

March 31, April 28, May 26, June 23, July 28, Aug. 25, Sept. 22, Oct. 27, Nov. 23 and Dec. 21.

The food pantry is located in the Summit Hill Heritage Center on Hazard and Chestnut streets.

Distribution will take place between 10-11:30 a.m. There is to be no parking in the alley before 9:45 a.m. and absolutely no parking in the vacant lot.

Recipients are reminded to bring along extra strong shopping or tote bags.

Lenten services

Zion Lutheran Brodheadsville, will have its last midweek Lenten supper and Bible study at 6:15 p.m. and midweek Lenten worship Contemplative Prayer Services at 7:30 p.m. today. That will include a healing service.

Effort Methodist continues with its Lenten services at 7 p.m. today. The topic is Crucified With Criminals, based on Luke 23:39-43.

Senior citizens

The Tamaqua Senior Citizens group met March 19 at it new location, the Tamaqua YMCA, 1201 E. Broad St. The meeting was attended by 50 members, with President Melody Weicker conducting the business session.

Secretary Ruthann Feane provided an inspirational reading, "God's World." New members Pat Fredeicks and Sandy Logan were welcomed, and Gladys Arner was added to the sick list.

The seniors meet at 1 p.m. every Thursday. Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join. The YMCA is handicap accessible.

All shook up

The Tamaqua Area Drama Club will present its production of "All Shook Up," a tribute to the 1950s and Elvis, this weekend in the Tamaqua Area School District Auditorium.

The show will go on at 7 p.m. today, and two performances on Saturday, at 1 and 7 p.m.

Diabetes support

St. Luke's University Health Network will sponsor a diabetes support group. Monthly meetings will begin in April and be held from 6 to 7 p.m. in the health network's Miners Campus in Coaldale.

Easter egg hunts

As in the past years, there will be two Easter egg hunts in the Palmerton Borough.

The first will be held at 11 a.m. March 28 at the Palmerton Memorial Park Grove.

Following that one, make your way to the Palmerton Borough Park for another egg hunt at 1 p.m. Come out and enjoy a fun time.

A rain date will be determined.

Community meal

A free community meal will be served from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday at St. John's Episcopal Church, 365 Lafayette Ave. Palmerton.

All are invited to enjoy a free meal and fellowship.

Historical society

The Nesquehoning Historical Society will hold its monthly meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the borough hall, 114 W. Catawissa St.

During the meeting, Bob Dunstan Jr. of Lansford, formerly of Nesquehoning, will be giving a presentation on the lost town of Lausanne.

Dunstan is a 1970 graduate of Panther Valley High School and a lifelong resident of the area.

Spring fling

East Penn Elementary School Spring Fling will be 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 28. The event will include a free egg hunt for ages 0-10, a craft show with over 25 vendors and crafters, Kids Carnival, Chinese Auction with prizes including a Great Wolf Lodge Family 4 Pack, Iron Pigs Family pack, Lehigh Valley Laser Tag and more.

This event supports the East Penn Elementary PTO.

Ebenezer UMC

Ebenezer UMC, 119 S. Third St. in Lehighton, is having a pancake breakfast and Easter egg hunt on March 28.

Trinity Happenings

Sunday worship at Trinity Lutheran Church, 175 S. Third St., 9 a.m., includes Service of Healing and Blessing of the prayer shawls. The Service of Healing with prayers and the "laying on of hands" are said for those with emotional, physical or spiritual burdens to help one's loads be lightened.

Designated pastor the Rev. Nancy Moore presides. Coffeehouse fellowship follows.

Coffee connection

The Tamaqua Area Ministerium is sponsoring a three-part series as part of its community ministry program, titled "Coffee and Connection." The series is designed to encourage free and open conversations about God, the church and individuals.

The theme will be "Things We Wish Jesus Hadn't Said." Each meeting will focus on a different message.

The next meeting will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. at Vonz Restaurant on Tuesday. The theme will be "Love your enemy." The third session will be held on April 24 (Give away everything you have).

Golden Agers

The Panther Valley Golden Agers will have a scheduled meeting on Monday at St. John's Slovak Lutheran Church Social Hall, 1 E. Abbott St. in Lansford, beginning at 1 p.m.

Members are asked to wear something green to celebrate a belated St. Patrick's Day.

Yearly dues are still being collected.

Marian Catholic Class of '65 reunion

The 50th class reunion for the Marian Catholic High School class of 1965 will be held on May 24 at Capriotti Palasso's in McAdoo.
