Slatington Lions Club

The Slatington Lions Club will hold its Installation of officers at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

At that time, a steak dinner meeting will be held at the Skeet Club Grove with guests.

The cost is $13 per person.

Zion Lutheran Church

The Zion Lutheran Church, 2 E. Catawissa St. in Nesquehoning, will be welcoming Vicar Sharon Richter to Zion on Sunday.

Bagels and coffee will be served in the church social rooms at 8:15 a.m.

Vicar Richter will be replacing the current vicar, Michael Duris, and will serve Zion Lutheran in Nesquehoning and St. Paul's Lutheran in Summit Hill.

Church council will meet at 7 p.m. Sunday.

Cressona Band

The Cressona Band will perform twice locally this month.

The first concert will be held during the Zion's Church Lewistown Valley Old Fashioned Social, from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Saturday. There will also be a special performance by the Junior Cressona Band that evening.

The band will also perform at the Tamaqua ABC Hi Rise, 222 E. Broad St., Tamaqua at 7 p.m. Wednesday, sponsored by Dr. Richard Chwastiak and Shafer's Pharmacy.

The performances will include show tunes, marches, overtures and songs of yesteryear. The public is welcome to attend.

Trinity Happenings

Sunday worship with Holy Communion at Trinity Lutheran Church, 175 S. Third St., starts at 9 a.m. Recognition of Trinity members who are graduating from high school, technical school, college or institutions of higher learning will be observed.

Guest speaker Chelle Huth of Theological Education with Youth will speak about the program, and will be available following the worship service for a Q & A session.

Designated pastor the Rev. Nancy Moore presides. Coffeehouse fellowship follows.

Golden Agers

The Panther Valley Golden Agers will hold their next scheduled meeting at 1 p.m. Monday at St. John Slovak Lutheran Church Social Hall.

In honor of Flag Day, members are asked to wear red, white and blue.

Bingo is scheduled to be played.


Vacation Bible School

"Trust the Lord With All Your Heart" is the theme of this year's Vacation a Bible School at First Congregational Church, Coaldale. Youths ages 3 to 18 are invited to participate in the annual VBS, which will be held 6 to 8 p.m. daily from June 22 to June 26.

St. John's

Tonight at 7, St. John's Lutheran Church, 1 E. Abbott St., Lansford, will hold an informal worship: a spiritual, peaceful evening service with Holy Communion.

All are welcome to this relaxed, brief musical evening prayer.

Feed the People hosts a dinner from 5-6:30, followed by a brief adult Bible study at 6:30 for all who wish to participate.

Adult Day Care

The Tamaqua Area Adult Day Care Center will be celebrating summer with a make your own ice cream sundae party on June 24.

Other activities for this month include: Monday, craft day hot air balloons; June 10 special breakfast and spa day; June 12 indoor golf; June 17 Salvation Army service; June 23 baking class; June 26 singalong with Audrey Christ; June 30 painting class.

The center also offers weekly singalongs, exercise sessions, a variety of therapies and social games. Breakfast, lunch and a snack are served daily.

Community meal

A free community meal will be served at St. John's United Church of Christ, 891 Columbia Ave., Palmerton on Tuesday from 5 to 6:30 p.m.

The menu will be baked sausage with peppers and onions, pierogies in butter and onions, baked beans, and light desserts such as pudding, fruit, etc.

Pope Francis was recently quoted as saying, "Pray for the hungry ... and then feed them because that is what prayer is all about." Hearing the Gospel message and living it are two different things.

All Stars tryouts

West End Little League All Stars tryouts will be held for 11- and 12-year-olds at 5:30 p.m. today at the Gilbert Field.

The 9- and 10-year-old tryouts will be at 5:30 p.m. Friday at the Saylorsburg Playground.

Those trying out are reminded to come dressed in baseball pants and cleats. No shorts.

Sixth grade band

The Pleasant Valley Intermediate School Sixth Grade Band will present its concert at 7:30 tonight.

Band Parents

Pleasant Valley Band Parents will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday in the high school band room.
