PVEN

For the months of March, Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network provided food to 907 individuals and distributed 2,202 articles of clothing to 64 families.

Besides donations of food, PVEN is also in need of boys' and girls' pajamas and clothes, all sizes.

They're also in need of linens, sheets, pillow cases and blankets.

Gently used items are appreciated.

Praise and Worship Team

St. Matthew's UCC in Kunkletown is looking for volunteers to play piano or keyboard and a guitarist for the Praise and Worship Team for the monthly Contemporary Service.

Pool passes

Applications are now available for season passes to the H.D. Buehler Memorial (Bungalow) Pool. Opening day will be June 5, at 11:30 a.m. No season or daily passes will be available that day.

Steeply discounted rates for Tamaqua Area School District residents are made available through the generosity of the John E. Morgan Foundation. Rates have been increased for out of district residents.

Summit Hill

Lions to meet

The monthly meeting of the Summit Hill Lions Club will be held on Tuesday, April 27, at the Viennese Villa, Coaldale. Dr. Kenneth Vermillion, president, will be in charge of the session.

The evening will start with a "meet and greet" social from 5-6 p.m., followed by a meal and program. The speaker will be Jeanette Richards from St. Luke's Miners Memorial Hospital. Micah Gursky will also be in attendance and offer remarks. A brief business meeting will also be held.

Since the Nesquehoning garbage truck is again in the garage for repairs, there will be no garbage picked up until Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of next week.

Residents are reminded not put garbage out until then and alert their neighbors of the pickup schedule change.

Nesquehoning

Lions Club

The members of the Nesquehoning Lions Club will hold a meeting on Tuesday, May 3 at 6:30 p.m. at the club building. There will be no dinner at this meeting.

Free dinner

The free community dinner will be held on Wednesday, April 28 at the Meed's United Methodist Church from 5-7 p.m. The menu will be barbecue chicken, mashed potatoes, and baked beans. All are invited.

Owl Creek news

The Owl Creek Community Park Commission held an outdoor meeting last Wednesday at the Owl Creek Reservoir. The group discussed recent activities, as well as upcoming plans.

The group will sponsor an adult dance next month at the Lakeside Ballroom, with music by "Remember When" and the annual Community Yard Sale will be held June 4 and 5.

The First Presbyterian Church, 304 Mahoning St., Lehighton, will host the Glee Club of Union League of Philadelphia at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday April 18.

The concert is free, however, donations will be accepted.

The concert is to benefit Lehighton Interfaith Furniture Bank and the First Presbyterian Church's sister church in Romania.

The April meeting of the Lehighton Borough Council will be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday in the Lehighton Municipal Building.

The meeting is generally held the fourth Monday of the month, but was changed for April because of a conflicting event.

Special meeting

The West End Rotary Club will not meet this coming Thursday. Instead, because of a Group Study Exchange Team mixer, to be held Tuesday, April 13 at 6:30 p.m. at the Village Squire Restaurant in Blakeslee, members of the club will visit there and forego that regular meeting.

In addition to the GSE team, there will be members from other local clubs.

It promises to be a fun evening says the club leadership.

Chestnuthill PTO

The Chestnuthill PTO will meet at 7 p.m., Tuesday, April 13.

VFW auxiliary

The next regular meeting of the VFW Post 8008 auxiliary will be held today, Tuesday, April 13 at 6:30 p.m., at the post home.

Nomination and election of officers for 2010-2011 will be held. All members are encouraged to attend.

Food pantry

Meed's Methodist Church will host the monthly food pantry on Thursday, April 15, from 1-3:30 p.m.
