DFC fund drive

Diligence Fire Company No. 1, Summit Hill, has launched its 2011 fund drive, the major source of revenue that helps the company meet expenses associated with truck payments and maintenance, among other costs.

A huge portion of the proceeds will go toward loan payments for the 2008 KME pumper the company purchased.

The purchase was made with the help of a Federal Emergency Management Agency grant of $284,250, although the company had to borrow over $100,000 to meet the purchase price. That resulted in a monthly payment of $700.
