Blood drive

WZZO will be sponsoring a Blood Drive with The West End Kiwanis, Polk Volunteer Fire Company and Miller-Keystone Blood Center on Wednesday, May 11, at the Polk Fire Company, Route 209, Kresgeville, from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.

Community meal

From 5-6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 10, a free community meal will be held at St. John's United Church of Christ, 891 Columbia Ave., Palmerton.

The public is welcome to enjoy a free meal and fellowship.

Rush-Ryan seniors

The Rush, Ryan and Delano Senior Citizens Inc. met April 26 at the Ryan Township Fire Company with 39 members in attendance. President Eleanor Schmerfeld conducted the business meeting.

Chaplain Kathleen Valentine offered an invocation. Secretary Florina Martin read minutes from the previous meeting and provided the financial report.

Birthday greetings were extended to Madeline Heffelfinger and Neal Flexer.

The annual banquet will be May 10 at the Ryan Township Fire Company. Christy Joy will provide the catering.

Choral concert

The Tamaqua Senior High/Middle School Spring Choral Concert will be held this Thursday in the Tamaqua Area Auditorium. Doors will open at 6:45 p.m., with the concert slated to begin at 7:30 p.m.

A variety of numbers will be presented by the Middle School Chorus, the Jazz Chorale and the Concert Choir. Accompanists will include Steven Moyer, Julian Gerace, Erin Raymond and Emily Zancofsky.

The choirs are under the direction of John Buglio.

PV knee-hi

The Panther Valley Knee Hi will hold a meeting on Tuesday, May 10 at 8 p.m.

at the Sports Zoo in Lansford.

PV senior center

The activities for the Panther Valley Senior Center have been announced by Fran Craigie, manager. For more information call (570) 669-9930.

The center will not be open from May 3-May 13 due to the Senior Games being held.

Benefit Festival

The Duane J. Lucien Scholarship Foundation will hold it's annual Benefit Festival Saturday, May 21 from noon to 8 p.m. at the covered bridge along the Slate Heritage Trail, just off 7th Street in Slatington.

The fundraiser benefits the community by providing college scholarships to Northern Lehigh High School seniors.

Newspaper drive

The men and boys of St. John's Lutheran Church will hold their monthly newspaper drive on Saturday, May 7. There will be one sweep of the Palmerton, Aquashicola, and Little Gap areas beginning at 8 a.m.

Papers should be bundled and placed within sight of the collectors. They are collecting papers only; the shiny inserts are acceptable. They also need grocery size brown paper bags.

Lioness generosity

The Western Pocono Lioness Club accepted two new members recently, Joan Hoffman and MaryAnn LaLumina and also held election of officers.

During the meeting reports were given on the upcoming fall luncheon and fashion show, the recent Holistic Fair and discussion took place about next year's event.

The Lioness Spring Rally, scheduled for 6 p.m. May 12 at JD Citros in Lehighton was also announced.

The club also donated $100 to West End Mission and $1,000 to the West End Ecumenical Network.

Family Movie and Dinner Night

Norm and Amy Burger invite all community youths and their families to a Family Movie and Dinner Night at St. Matthew's UCC in Kunkletown to begin at 5 p.m.

If you are in fifth grade and up, you are welcome to join in the fun.

YMCA Open House at Eldred Elementary

The Pocono Family YMCA will be holding a grand opening at its new West End Extension Site on Saturday, April 30, from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Eldred Elementary in Kunkletown.

The public is invited to join them.

Summit Hill

Methodist Charge

The service schedule for the Coaldale/Summit Hill United Methodist Charge for Sunday, May 1, is as follows:

Worship services will be held at 9 a.m. in the Summit Hill United Methodist Church and at 11 a.m. in the Coaldale United Methodist Church.

The Rev. Burgess Gordon will officiate at both services. The adult Sunday school will meet at 9:45 a.m. in the Coaldale church.
