Summit Hill

Food distribution

The Summit Hill Food Pantry distributes food to the needy in the community on a monthly basis. Distributions are usually made on the fourth Tuesday of each month.

The Summit Hill Lions Club members assist with the packaging and distributions of the food boxes.

Anyone wanting information about the pantry, or knowing someone who could use assistance, can contact Rose Marie Armon, (570) 645-3604 or Sandra Hill, 645-4617.

Holy Week services

St. John's Lutheran Church, South Ave., will hold the following services during Holy Week. Maundy Thursday, 7 p.m. Rite of First Holy Communion, along with the stripping of the altar. Good Friday, 2 p.m. service with scriptures and prayers. There will be no service on Saturday, April 23.

Easter day, April 24, 9:15 a.m. Sunday School; 10:30 a.m. festival of Holy Communion.

Happy music

The Spring Pops was presented by the Pleasant Valley Choral Society this past weekend with the theme of Rockin at the Theater!, under the direction of Dorothy Mohr.

The society will soon be soliciting membership for the holiday concert set for 7 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 10, and at 3 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 11.

7th annual Asher Boyer Bowl

Six person teams are now being gathered for the 7th annual Asher Boyer Bowl that will be held on Saturday, April 23, at the Slatington Bowling Center, 8123 Route 73, Slatington.

Individuals and teams are welcome to bowl. Two sessions will run from 6-8:30 and 9-11:30 p.m.

Proceeds from the Bowl go to the Asher F. Boyer Endowment Fund for Future Education, which has benefited many organizations that Asher was involved in and individuals from around the area.

Community supper

A free community supper will be held from 4-6 p.m., Thursday, April 28, at St. John's Episcopal Church, 365 Lafayette Ave., Palmerton. Enjoy a free meal and fellowship.

Holy Trinity Lutheran

Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 502, Lafayette Ave., Palmerton, will hold Maundy Thursday worship services at 7:30 p.m. April 21.

Good Friday worship will be at 7:30 p.m., April 22. On Easter Sunday, April 24, sunrise services will be at 5:50 a.m. at the Village at Palmerton. Easter worship service at the church will be at 8 a.m. and 10:45 a.m.

Borough offices closed

The Lehighton Borough Offices will be closed on Friday, April 22 in observance of the Good Friday holiday.

The office will reopen on Monday, April 25 at 8:30 a.m.

The Lehighton Borough Administrative and Utility Offices will be closed from 10 a.m. until noon on Wednesday, April 27.

Residents are encouraged to use the drop box for bill payments during this time.

Middle school news

The Tamaqua Area Middle School will host its annual Spring Art Show and Choral Concert on May 5.

The annual art show will be held from 6-7:30 p.m. and will feature a variety of artistic creations done by students in sixth, seventh and eighth grades. In addition to individual works, there will also be several group projects featured.

In an effort to make it easier and more convenient for people in the Tamaqua area to lose weight, Weight Watchers of Philadelphia Inc. has announced it is opening a new meeting location in the Scheller Student Center on the Morgan Center campus of Lehigh Carbon Community College. The initial session is scheduled for April 26 at 11:30 a.m. Express Meeetings will then be held every Tuesday, from noon to 1 p.m.

Palmerton Area School Board will not hold a budget workshop this Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.

Last week, the board tentatively agreed to hold the budget workshop at that time.

No word has been given as to when the board will hold its next budget workshop.
