Fire training

Live fire training will be held in Lansford by the firefighters on either April 9 or 10 and will cease around 5 p.m.

The training will take place at the Dock Street Training Grounds in Lansford.

Area residents may experience some smoke from the training.

Golden Agers

Forty members of the Panther Valley Golden Agers attended the March meeting. President Ronnie Bazik opened the meeting with a prayer "Thankful for Each Season."

Garden club

The Lewistown Valley Garden Club held its first regular meeting of 2011 in the social hall of Zions Church, Lewistown Valley. The business session was conducted by President June Leiby. Special guest speaker was Dr. Joseph Sabol.

Lions blood drive

The Western Pocono Lions Club blood drive held Thursday, March 31, netted 35 units of blood. The club thanks all who donated and encourages residents to give at other blood drives.

Class of 1943

The Tamaqua High School Class of 1943 is planning a 68-year anniversary reunion for this summer. The event will be held June 18 at the Owl Creek Reservoir and will include a picnic style luncheon.

Rush bloodmobile

The Rush Township Bicentennial Committee will sponsor an American Red Cross Bloodmobile on April 5, from 1-6 p.m., at the township municipal building.

Lenten service

The next Lenten service will be held at Salem UCC in Gilbert on Wednesday, April 6. The Rev. Brian Holben will be the guest preacher.

Soup and sandwich hour begins at 6:30 p.m. and the service will begin at 7:30 p.m.

Senior center

The Panther Valley Senior Center has announced its list of activities for April. Starting April 1 is Deal or No Deal at 11 a.m.

April 4 is bean bag, cards, and shooting pool. April 5 everyone can practice shooting darts. April 6 is Pay Bingo at 11 a.m. April 7 is CCTI Health Medical Class at 11:30 a.m. April 8 is a pizza party for $4 for lunch.

Egg hunt

St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, Lansford, will hold its annual Easter egg hunt on Sunday, April 16, beginning at noon. The event will be sponsored by Catholic Charities. Registration is required.

OLOAA registration

Our Lady of the Angels Academy, Lansford, is accepting registrations for the 2011-2012 school year. Parents can register their child(ren) Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the school office, or can call (570) 645-7170/7101 to arrange an appointment.

The Slatington Lions Club will hold an indoor meeting at the Moose at 6:45 p.m. April 5.

The guest speaker will be Lehigh County Court of Common Pleas Judge James Anthony.

Adult day care

The Tamaqua Area Adult Day Care Center has a variety of activities planned for April, including the monthly birthday party on April 21.

Other activities planned for the month include: April 4, communion; April 6, social games; April 11, shopping trip; April 13, craft day; April 18, visit from St. Jerome's kindergarten students; April 19, Easter candy/bake sale; April 20, Salvation Army visit; April 22, closed; April 25, cooking class; April 27 sing-a-long with Audrey Christ.
