High school graduation

The Northern Lehigh High School Class of 2011 will hold commencement exercises at 7 p.m. Friday, June 19 at Bulldog Stadium.

Baccalaureate Services will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 18 in the high school auditorium.

Slatington Lions Club

The Slatington Lions Club will hold its board meeting at the Skeet Club at 7 p.m. June 15.

Lions birthday wishes go out to Robert McGeehan (June 12).

Garden club

The Lewistown Valley Garden Club held its May meeting in the social hall of Zions Church, Lewistown Valley. The business session was conducted by President June Leiby. Special guest speaker was Jean Bachert.

Bachert spoke about using "crackle" medium for decorating floral containers made of wood and other items. She also demonstrated creating a floral arrangements and held a question and answer session.

Members discussed the upcoming Schuylkill County Fair, scheduled for Aug.1-6, and reviewed the criteria for the Artistic Arrangements section.

Three consecrated

Effort UMC 's Pastor Robin Fisher consecrated three adult volunteers this past Sunday.

Karen D'arcy was consecrated as the new food pantry director at the church, replacing Mark Baylis. She has volunteered at the pantry since its inception, about 10 years ago.

Joining her in administrative leadership, also from the ranks of volunteers, is Anne Marie Klemm as assistant director. Klemm has about four years experience, says D'arcy

The third volunteer, Deborah Audett, will serve as Vacation Bible School director.

Golden Agers

The meeting of May 23 of the Panther Valley Golden Agers was opened by Vice President Shirley Pavlick.

A Memorial Day Prayer was recited by Frank Karnish. There were only 27 members present. Sue Dopira read comments on "Signs Of Aging"

A moment of silence was held for former member Jean Baer. Three members of the club were recognized for participation at the Senior Games

Travel Reports were given by Karnish and Irene Hudasky on up coming trips. The Sunshine report was given by Mimi Marrin.

PV senior center

The Panther Valley Senior Center has announced its events for the month of June. The phone number is (570) 669-9930.

On June 6, there will be a bus leaving to see the Joey Dee Show at the Mohegan Sun at 10 a.m. It is already filled to capacity. The center will remain open. June 7 is penny game at 11 a.m. and a Sunshine meeting afterward. June 8 is exercise at 10 a.m. and can bingo at 11 a.m. On June 9 blood pressure screenings will be held from 10:30-11:30 a.m. June 10 is exercise at 10 a.m. and Deal or No Deal at 11 a.m.

Free Yoga class

A free yoga class will be conducted on Wednesday, June 8 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. The class will be held in St. Matthew's UCC's picnic grove in Kunkletown. This will begin an eight-week class. Cressona band

The Cressona Band will perform two free mini concerts in Tamaqua this summer.

The first event will be held June 8, at 7 p.m., at the Tamaqua ABC High Rise, 222 E. Broad St. The concert will be sponsored by Shafer's Pharmacy and Dr. Richard Chwastiak.

The second concert will be performed July 13, at 7 p.m., at the East End Playground. Rain date will be July 14, same time and place.

The public is welcome to attend either or both events. Featured music will include show tunes, marches, overtures and songs of yesteryear.

Zion Lewistown

The Rev. Sunny Stock will officiate at the 10:45 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Zion Church in the Lewistown Valley. The service will be followed by a congregational meeting. The Confirmation class will meet after the congregational meeting. Sunday school classes will be held at 9:30 a.m.

Also on Sunday, Chris Hafer will lead a Bible study session, at 6:30 p.m., at Calvary United Methodist Church.
