Bishop visit

Bishop Paul Marshall, will be at St. Mark's/St. John's Episcopal Church, Race Street, for the 9 a.m. service on Sunday, June 26. This will be the only service for this Sunday and it will be held in the main church.

A reception will be held following the service in the Great Hall.

Water reports

The annual water report for the borough has been sent to the residents of Jim Thorpe. If you have not received one and are interested in it, please call the borough office, at (570) 325-2181.

Relay weekend

The Tamaqua Carbon Unit of the American Cancer Society will hold its annual Relay For Life event this weekend at the Hometown Farmers' Market on SR54. The event will begin at 2 p.m. Friday with ending ceremonies at 2 p.m. Saturday. This is the local unit's 18th anniversary.

This year's goal is $90,000. One of the highlights of the annual event is the Survivors Victory Lap, which will take place Friday (today) at 7 p.m. A free breakfast for survivors will be served Saturday at 9 a.m.

Arts camp

St. Jerome's Regional School is offering a second session of summer performing arts camp for Tamaqua area students in grades 2-8.

The session will conclude with a full musical production.

In addition to performing, participants will learn about directing plays, set building, staging and communication skills.

The camp will run from July 11 to July 29, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Features will include intensive acting, singing, movement, fun activities and play time.

Golden Agers

The meeting of the Panther Valley Golden Agers opened with a prayer by Mary Ann Stotelmyer, "Flag Day Prayer For Our Nation." God Bless America was sung by the group.

A discussion about an indoor picnic was held among the members, with a possible day of having it in August. Anyone wishing to attend is asked to sign up at the upcoming meetings.

The Hospitality Committee for July and August are Joanne Large and Fran Hager.

Organ donor awareness

This Friday is Kinsley's ShopRite's First Annual Organ Donor Awareness Day.

The activities will run from noon until 4 p.m.

Driver safety program

An eight-hour driver refresher course offered by AARP will be held July 16 and July 23 at the Chestnuthill Park Building. Both four-hour sessions must be attended in order to complete the class and receive a certificate of accomplishment.

Park concert

The group Who Knows Best will be performing at 7 p.m., Sunday, June 26 in the Palmerton Borough Park Bandstand. Bring a lawn chair.

In the event of rain, the concert will be held in the Palmerton Borough Hall, 443 Delaware Ave.

Help wanted

Can you spare one hour a week for a worthy cause? The Meals on Wheels program in Palmerton needs more deliverers.

Deliveries are made from the Palmerton Hospital about 11 a.m. Monday through Friday, holidays included. Each route requires less than one hour.

SS. Peter and Paul Church

The SS. Peter and Paul 100th anniversary planning committee will meet at 7 p.m. on Monday in the church rectory.

CCD parents with children who will be in second and third grades for the 2011-2012 school year are invited to attend an important meeting regarding sacramental preparation for the coming year at 6 p.m. on Monday, June 27 in the St. Jerome Regional School gym.

Historical society

The Eldred Township Historical Society is looking for donations for its Chinese auction to be held at the Kunkletown Volunteer Fire Company's Carnival. If you would like to make a donation, see that it is there at St. Matthew's UCC's picnic grove Tuesday, June 21 at 10 a.m. or call Brenda Dorshimer at (610) 381-3895.

Because of the carnival, there will be no ETHS meeting on June 21. The next scheduled meeting will be on Tuesday, July 19 at 7 p.m. at the Eldred Twp. municipal building.
