Care Net opens Nesquehoning office

Pregnancy can be a scary thing, especially when you are young or alone.

Care Net of Carbon County realizes the importance of having a support system in place to help guide a woman along this lifelong journey into motherhood; as well as form a lasting bond between mother and father who can give their child the love and necessities they need.On Saturday, the nonprofit organization's director's dream came true as she, her staff and volunteers welcomed friends to the opening of Care Net's second location in Nesquehoning for a prayer and dedication ceremony of the building. The new site is located at 250 W. Catawissa St."It's amazing because this was a dream for years for me," said Suzi DeMara, director of Care Net."We definitely needed more space because we were busting out of the seams in Lehighton."For years, the organization has served countless numbers of families through the trials of relationships, parenthood and beyond at a quaint half-double home at 531 Mahoning St. in Lehighton.DeMara spoke about the importance of having a faith-based organization to help guide a woman in her decision after she finds out she is pregnant, and the whole family build a strong network. In addition, she was happy to announce that donations have been coming in for an ultrasound machine, which will be implemented in the Nesquehoning facility in the future.Robert Wheeless, executive director of Crossroads Pregnancy Care of Quakertown, commended Care Net for its efforts."This is a banner day for the community," he said, adding that the men and women who work for the organization will share the word of Christ to help young women and families find a message of hope.Care Net of Carbon County has served the community for decades at its Lehighton location with classes, pregnancy support, life skills, pregnancy tests, counseling and education opportunities. These options will now expand to serve the Panther Valley community. The new office includes an area for a teen group room, meeting area, a child-care area, materials resource room, two counseling rooms, and eventually a thrift boutique where people could purchase necessities for babies and families.Current hours at the new location are noon to 6 p.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
