Update: Bull who charged man was put down

West Penn police report the bull involved in charging and stomping a man Saturday afternoon had to be put down.

The police feared for the neighboring community and the number of children in the immediate area so the decision was made to destroy it.

The bull escaped from a farm on Rabbit Run Road in the township this afternoon. The owner was Michael Berger.

The animal escaped from its corral and made its way through woods and fields to the Macintosh Lane area.

It took refuge in a field where Berger and Paul Baker, 58 of East Penn township attempted to secure it and remove it by way of a trailer.

The bull attacked Baker, mowing him down then stomping on him.

Police said Baker has been transferred to St. Luke's University Center in Bethlehem.
