Applications for the vacant seat on the Panther Valley School Board must be submitted by Friday.

The school board is seeking applicants to fill the seat vacated by board member Brian Dolena, who resigned last month.The appointee would serve out Dolena's term, which expires in December.Interested residents of Panther Valley School District must submit a letter to the district's business by Friday at 1 p.m.Letters can be sent to Panther Valley School District, 1 Panther Way, Lansford, PA 18232.The letter should explain why he or she would like to serve as board member, as well as any qualifications or experiences that would benefit the school district.The board accepted Dolena's resignation on Feb. 15. He cited a new job opportunity in a letter of resignation received by the board.Under state law, the board must fill the seat within 30 days of accepting a member's resignation.If the board doesn't appoint a new member in 30 days, voters could ask the Carbon County Court of Common Pleas to fill the position.
