Palmerton Library offers free summer events

School's out and there are lots of free activities for kids of all ages to do this summer at the Palmerton Area Library.

The summer reading program will launch with Super Science and Amazing Art. Miss Cathy will be here at 10:30 a.m. Fridayto entertain with science experiments and other cool stuff.Friday morning programs continue throughout July for kids in kindergarten through sixth grade. The younger kids will watch puppet shows, hear stories, and do crafts and games. While the older kids listen to special visitors, speakers and participate in lots of Lego challenges.At the end of the series of programs, each child will receive a free book to take home. The library will have preschool circle time at 10:30 a.m. Thursdays starting June 29 with stories, songs, dancing, rhythm instruments and games. All programs are free and open to everyone no matter where they live.The teen group for kids in grades 5 to 12 willmeet through the summer on the second and fourth Thursday in the afternoon. They will have book reading challenges, book bingo and crafts. Call the library at 610-826-3424 and ask for Christine for more information.The reading chain contest is open to everyone from preschoolers to adults. For each book read, the library will add a link to the chain decorating the mezzanine railing. At the end of the summer, three links from each of five age categories will be randomly selected and winners will receive prizes.This year, B104 radio station is giving away a free iPad to one lucky winner.The annual Student Art and Photo Show is 1-3 p.m. Aug. 12 for students ages 6-18. Artwork should be brought to the library by Aug. 10. It should be matted, framed and ready to hang with a wire on the back.The Friends of the Library will give monetary prizes in two age groups.Check out the library website at
