Pleasant Valley School director resigns amid pressure

Pleasant Valley School Board Director Steven Borger has resigned from the board.

Borger had attended only three school board meetings during the past school year. Borger was re-elected in 2015 and had a change in his work schedule at the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission shortly after the election took place. Borger's schedule changed to an evening shift making his attendance unlikely. When questioned about his absences earlier this year, Borger had said he wanted to remain on the board and that he was active whenever his schedule allowed. Borger added that he had hoped his schedule would change in the near future.More recently directors-elect Laura Jecker and Donna Yozwiak have questioned the board members on their failure to censure Borger for his failure to attend. In June Jecker started an online petition to force the board into replacing Borger.School Board President Russell Gould was once again queried by Jecker during the June 22 board meeting. Jecker asked why the board was refusing to replace Borger in the same manner in which Director H. Charles Hoffman had been replaced upon his death last year."We have sent a letter to Borger," Gould said. "He has until July 1 to reply."On Monday, the Pleasant Valley School Board published a public notice announcing a vacancy on the board resulting from Borger's resignation.According to the notice the board will be considering applications from candidates at least 18 years of age, of good moral character, and a resident of Pleasant Valley School District for at least one year. Any person applying for the position must also be a registered voter.Letters of interest, a resume listing qualifications and any letters of support and recommendation should be submitted to Pleasant Valley School Superintendent Carole Geary at the district office located at 2233 Route 115, Suite 100, Brodheadsville, PA 18322. Applications will be accepted until 4 p.m. on July 13.
