In other action, Lehighton Borough Council recently:

• On a 5-1 vote, with Councilman Joe Flickinger opposed, agreed to purchase a brush cutter in the amount of $62,963 for the borough's Public Works Department to be used boroughwide.• Tabled discussion on an increase to electric rates.• Approved an amendment to the borough's tobacco ordinance, with costs to be funded by a grant. Borough Manager Nicole Beckett said the borough's current Smoking and Tobacco Use ordinance is 14 years old, and the City of Bethlehem Bureau of Health had received grant funding, which extends into Carbon County. The borough will update the ordinance with the funding, she said.• Agreed to put a piece of property out to bid. River Blue would like to purchase a 27-by-50 piece of land that is located by the dialysis center on Sgt. Stanley Hoffman Boulevard. The land is the former location of a sewer pump station that the borough had demolished more than five years ago.• Agreed to allow vendors such as a winery/distillery to be a part of the Lehighton Downtown Initiative's Farmers Market.• Approved a bid of $3,700 for the 1994 Ford F800.• Approved a resolution for the sale of the 2011 Ford Crown Victoria for $807.• Approved an amendment to the AFSCME Bargaining Agreement.• Approved the road material and aggregate bids as presented, and adopted a resolution pertaining to bituminous materials in small quantities.• Agreed to create an ordinance for Mobile Food Vehicle Licensing, which would create regulations for Mobile Food Trucks. Beckett said the borough has received a few requests for food trucks along the trail and within town.• Tabled a request by Dilly Dogs Catering to place a food cart at the D7L Trail during lunchtime hours.• Approved this year's alleys to be paved, as well as repairs on North Second Street parking area repairs (from North Street to Ochre Street).• Tabled discussion on amending the garbage ordinance limiting the amount per week.• Approved a resolution establishing the fee schedule for this year.• Approved a request from the Lehighton Downtown Initiative to hold Rocktoberfest Oct. 14-15.• Approved a request for fire police services, if available, to assist with traffic control June 1-4 for the Orioles Carnival.• Approved a request for fire police services, if available, to assist with traffic in Palmerton for the Blue Mountain Health System 10K, 5K Run/Walk on May 12.• Approved a donation to the United Veterans Organization ($250 done yearly).• Approved holding the Senior Games May 2-10.• Agreed to purchase gift certificates from Seventh Moon for Administrative Professionals Day, April 26.• Tabled a request to hold the Crusader for the Homeless 5K Walk/Run July 8 with fire police assistance for traffic control if available.
