Coaldale combats blight problem

An unoccupied home was demolished Monday in Coaldale as part of a project to reduce blight in the borough.

Workers took down a home at 216 E. High St., which had been acquired by the borough earlier this year.The property was cleaned up with state grant money awarded through the Schuylkill County Planning Commission.At a recent council meeting, councilwoman Claire Remington said that two other abandoned homes on the same street will be taken down soon.“It will be flat lands there, but it will be clean lands,” Remington said.
