Tribute bands take opera house stage

This weekend the Mauch Chunk Opera House in Jim Thorpe offers up the music of the Eagles and the Rolling Stones with two top tribute bands.

On Friday at 8 p.m., it's Eaglemania, billed as one of the greatest Eagles tribute bands.Performing and replicating the Eagles' heartfelt ballads, rock anthems and their unmistakable vocal harmonies, many monster hits such as "Hotel California," "Desperado," "Witchy Woman," "Take it Easy," "Best of My Love," "Tequila Sunrise" and "One of These Nights," are steady songs in their vast repertoire."The music of The Eagles has been the soundtrack to so many of our lives," keyboardist/vocalist and founder Frankie Reno said."Music has the remarkable power to transcend time and take us all back to our childhoods, to our college years, to a time when life seemed much simpler. This music has the power to do that."The Eagles themselves were formed in 1971. With five No. 1 singles, six Grammys, five American Music Awards and six No. 1 albums, The Eagles were one of the most successful musical acts of the 1970s. They've inspired many musicians with their unique sound, a sound that Eaglemania painstakingly replicates."One of the most often heard compliments from our audience is that if they closed their eyes, they would think they were at an Eagles concert," Reno said. "That is the ultimate compliment."On Saturday at 8 p.m. The Glimmer Twins, an eight-piece band performing nationally, return to the opera house. The Glimmer Twins re-create the look, sound, and feel of the Rolling Stones in their heyday. What makes The Glimmer Twins such a special attraction is their ability to capture the raw energy of the most electrifying performances throughout the Rolling Stones career and present it in such a way that audiences are able to experience the same sensation of what it was really like to be at a Stones concert.Because of the uncanny resemblances to Mick Jagger and Keith Richards in their prime, combined with special attention to the minutest details both musically and visually, The Glimmer Twins deliver a classic Rolling Stones experience.Tickets are available at 570-325-0249 and online at mchojt.com, at Soundcheck Records in downtown Jim Thorpe at 570-325-4009 and at the opera house the day of show. Parking is available and free after 5 p.m. at the Carbon County lot behind the train station.
