Charges over firearm permit application

A Kelayres man who tried to purchase a .22 caliber rifle at the HT Commons Walmart in Hometown faces charges after his firearm's permit application was denied.

Josh Christman, 34, went to the Walmart store on Oct. 15, 2015, wanting to purchase a Keystone Sporting Arms Cricket rifle. He completed the ATF Firearms Transaction Record, indicating he had never been convicted of a felony, or any other crime that could result in being imprisoned for more than one year, even if a shorter sentence was imposed. Christman checked the no box and signed the form, which includes a warning that making false or written statements is punishable under federal law. When Christman's information was run through the Pennsylvania Instant Check System, it turned out that he had been charged with theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property. His application was denied and Rush Township Police will charge him with making unsworn false statements.
