Trooper rescues elderly woman

Persistence by a state trooper saved an elderly woman's life Wednesday afternoon.

State police and fire crews responded to a house fire in Valley View Estates in Penn Forest Township early Wednesday afternoon. The call that came in around noon indicated that there was a house fire at 277 Patton Circle with possible entrapment.State trooper Jonathan Bailey of Fern Ridge barracks was first on the scene. He learned an elderly woman was trapped in the residence.According to a state police press release, Bailey made several attempts to enter the home, but he encountered thick smoke and flames. Bailey eventually located the women in the living room of the building and was able to assist her in escaping."By the time we arrived on the scene the state police had already removed all of the residents from the house," said Penn Forest Volunteer Fire Company No. 2 Chief Dave Vuckovic. "I credit the state police with saving the life of the women who was downstairs in the home."According to Vuckovic, the fire started in an oven on the lower level of the home and was contained to the oven."There was a lot of smoke," Vuckovic said. "We had three adults treated and transported for smoke inhalation."Vuckovic said that the damage to the home was minimal.The family members were transported to Lehigh Valley Cedar Crest Emergency Room for treatment for smoke inhalation.Bailey was treated for smoke inhalation at Pocono Medical Center and released.Bailey was assisted at the scene by troopers Joseph Urban, Christopher Tomlinson and Jeffrey Kreidler.Fire crews from Penn Forest No. 1 and No. 2 responded along with Albrightsville and Polk Township volunteer fire companies.The scene was cleared by 2 p.m.
