Lehighton school district board reorganizes

Lehighton Area School District has a new school board vice president following its reorganization meeting Monday night.

Dave Krause was unanimously appointed to succeed Richard Beltz, while Gloria Bowman will retain her position as board president, also a unanimous choice.Bowman has served as president since April when then-President Hal Resh resigned from the board.“I want to thank every board member who has been so committed to this district,” Bowman said. “We have wonderful committees and their work is moving nicely. Our board has dedicated hours and hours. People have been asked to step up to the plate, and we’re all working together to continue to make Lehighton a better place.”Carbon County Judge Roger Nanovic appointed Krause to the board earlier this year after the passing of William Hill Jr. left a vacancy.Following the election, Bowman filled Lehighton’s board committees for the upcoming year.Beltz and fellow board member Larry Stern will co-chair the personnel and negotiations committee, which also consists of Duane Eidem and Stacey Duerst.Andrew Yenser will chair the finance committee rounded out by Beltz and Duerst.Other committees:Building and grounds: Steve Holland (chairman), Wayne Wentz and SternPolicy: Krause (chairman), Stern and BowmanWellness: Duerst (chairwoman)Athletic: Wentz (chairman), Holland and SternLegislative: Krause (chairman) and EidemTitle 1: BowmanAcademic Affairs: Stern (chairman), Bowman and Krause.Duerst and Yenser will serve as the district’s representatives to the Lehighton Memorial Library board.Eidem was named to a five-year term on the Carbon County Area Vocational-Technical School Authority.As he has for several years, Yenser will represent the district on the Carbon Career & Technical Institute’s joint operating committee with Holland as the alternate.
