Jim Thorpe tourist agency sued over fall

A vendor who was participating in the annual "fall foliage festival" has filed suit against the Jim Thorpe Tourist Agency, aka, Jim Thorpe Tourism Agency, 44 Broadway, Jim Thorpe, seeking damages for injuries she sustained at the festival in 2013.

Frances Bell, and her husband, Robert Meyhoefer, of 1214 Red Hill Road, Red Hill, Montgomery County, filed the civil action in the county court seeking damages in excess of $50,000 on each of two counts.The suit states on Oct. 6, 2013, Bell was at the fall festival and more particularly at the Mauch Train Station, selling arts and crafts. The suit alleges Bell was caused to slip, trip and/or fall into a grate in the sidewalk that was left open on the train station premises, and as a result, she was caused to land about 12 feet below ground, sustaining "severe and permanent injuries" which are described in the suit. The suit states the defendant was in control of the train station at the time of the incident.The suit states the injuries sustained by Bell continue to affect her and will for an indefinite time. Some of the injuries sustained included multiple contusions, bleeding on her brain, loss of consciousness, right hip pain, left chest wall tenderness, back pain, and other medical conditions detailed in the suit.The suit states because of these injuries the plaintiffs have expended substantial sums of money for the medicine and medical attention provided Bell. The suit states the injuries sustained will/may continue for an indefinite time in the future leading to continued financial obligations.Negligence is alleged against the defendant and judgment is sought in an amount in excess of $50,000. A jury trial is demanded.The suit was filed by the Munley law offices of Scranton.
