NW's Motolese chooses FDU

It wasn't long ago that Northwestern senior Angela Motolese gave a verbal commit to New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) to continue her soccer career.

But something wasn't right. After some pondering, Motolese made one of the most important decisions of her life. A center midfielder on the Tigers' soccer team, Motolese committed to Fairleigh Dickinson University (FDU) and was one of eight athletes to be recognized at Wednesday's ceremonial signing at Northwestern High School.Motolese is one of three Division I collegiate soccer players that played for the Tigers this season, joining previous signees Sabrina Mertz (Lehigh University) and Sarah Segan (College of William & Mary)."I felt that academically [NJIT] wasn't as suited as Fairleigh Dickinson," Motolese said. "They had talked to me before NJIT, and I just had to go back to FDU."After gaining interest from a number of schools, including Marist College, St Francis University, Slippery Rock University and the before mentioned NJIT, it was her comfort at Fairleigh Dickinson that swayed her decision to a different New Jersey school. The distance was also a big factor in Motolese's decision. Roughly two hours away, Fairleigh Dickinson proved to be the perfect location and best suit both academically and athletically."I kind of get a little homesick when I'm away from places," Motolese said. "When I was there, I didn't feel anything. I just felt like it was my second home already."As a four-year varsity member, Motolese helped guide the Tigers to Colonial League and District 11 Class AA championships in the fall, as well as a lengthy trip in the PIAA tournament. She was also an integral part to many other championship teams over her career. With the next four seasons right around the corner, Motolese sees plenty of similarities on the field with FDU."Their playing style just fit how I play," Motolese said. "I felt comfortable with the girls and everything. It was good."Motolese plans to major in business at FDU."It's so broad," Motolese said, "and I kind of feel like I want to be a broker."During her career at Northwestern, Motolese was named to the Colonial League all-star team on two occasions, while also being an all-state selection one year under head coach Kelley Bleam. She also participated in track and field in the spring. Her parents are Dawn and Rob Motolese.
