Northern Carbon defends Senior Games title

It came down to the last event, but after all the dust settled and the music stopped, it was the defending champs, the Northern Carbon County seniors, consisting of Panther Valley, Weatherly and Jim Thorpe senior centers, who came out on top in this year's Carbon County Senior Games.

The final score was Northern Carbon County, 689; Southern Carbon County, 675.The results for Wednesday's events, which included bingo, pinochle, rummy, the polka, slow dancing and the rock 'n' roll are:Bingo: Pat Schapell of Lehighton, gold; Francis O'Donnell of Jim Thorpe, silver; and Todd Canashaw of Jim Thorpe, bronze.Pinochle: Althea Haydt of Palmerton, gold; Elaine Dunkle of Lehighton, silver; and Ron Fritz of Lehighton, bronze.Rummy: Al Fanelli of Jim Thorpe, gold; Jean Fisher of Lehighton, silver; and Sue Dopira of Panther Valley, bronze.Polka: Joe and Barbara Mustacchio of Lehighton, gold; Fran Haas and Sandy Fritz of Lehighton, silver; and Linda Bottcher and Linda Daubenspeck of Lehighton, bronze.Slow dance: John and Connie DiJohn of Jim Thorpe, gold; Joe and Barbara Mustacchio of Lehighton, silver; and Mike Freund of Palmerton and Sheryl Herman of Jim Thorpe, bronze.Rock 'n' roll: Joe and Barbara Mustacchio of Lehighton, gold; John and Connie DiJohn of Jim Thorpe, silver; and Linda Bottcher and Linda Daubenspeck of Lehighton, bronze.The games will conclude today at 4 p.m., with a banquet at Mahoning Valley Ambulance Hall in Lehighton.
