Geographic Information System Day celebrated

Lehigh Carbon Community College will be celebrating Geographic Information System Day on April 17.

Featured speakers include representatives from the GIS mapping software company Esri and the Census Bureau. The event will be held in Rooms 202-204 of the Technology Center on LCCC's main campus in Schnecksville from 12:30 to 4 p.m.GIS technology integrates maps with database operations to solve everyday problems ranging from environmental protection to emergency planning to crime prevention. Most commonly employed in online services such as Google Maps and MapQuest, GIS is a powerful, vital tool that can query, analyze and map data needed for decision making.The GIS program, which began in the spring of 2009 at LCCC, has been recognized by the U.S. Department of Labor and Industry as a key emerging and evolving industry with numerous opportunities as a career path.This event is free and open to the public.Please contact Joyce Thompson at
