Commissioners approve hirings

Carbon County officials approved a number of board and personnel actions on Thursday.

During the county commissioners' meeting, the board approved the reappointment of Fred Bresswein of Lehighton, Frank Jacobs of Nesquehoning, and Jesse Walck of Summit Hill to the Carbon County Planning Commission. The positions are for four-year terms.The commissioners also made the following actions:• Approved the retirement of William E. McDonald of New Ringgold, effective Dec. 31. He currently serves as the first assistant district attorney in Carbon County.• Accepted the resignation of Stacey Q. Grant of Albrightsville, aging case aide II, Area Agency on Aging, effective Oct. 30.• Hired Pamela S. Hughes of Summit Hill as a part-time community health nurse I, Area Agency on Aging, effective Nov. 10.• Hired Joshua J. Jacobs of Nesquehoning as a part-time dispatcher/trainee, Communications Center, effective Nov. 3.In other matters, Commissioner Wayne Nothstein urged municipalities to contact their trash collectors to open discussions about renegotiating contracts because beginning Jan. 1, 2015, Carbon County will no longer be collecting the $4 per ton tipping fee, which has been worked into current trash contracts.Michael Guy, representing Amazing Jim Thorpe, thanked the board for the use of Mauch Chunk Lake Park's parking lot during the fall foliage festival weekends in October.
