Faced with record high medical bills for inmates, Carbon County will take matters into its own hands to keep costs down.

The Carbon County Prison Board created a committee, to be chaired by county controller Robert Crampsie, that will negotiate contracts for lower prices in medical expenses, similar to the rates charged by Medicare. The committee will also conduct a medical review to determine if treatment is necessary and will review medical bills for possible errors.
