Arson fire damages historic Pa. covered bridge

NEW BLOOMFIELD, Pa. (AP) - State police say a fire damaging an historic covered bridge in central Pennsylvania was intentionally set.

Firefighters responded to the 125-year-old Dellville Covered Bridge in Wheatfield Township around 3:30 a.m. Monday and worked for several hours to contain the blaze.

The bridge's wooden structure appeared charred and its metal roof warped in places.

Trooper Robert Hicks says police are continuing to interview witnesses. He says no arrests have been made.

The bridge spanning Sherman's Creek was built in 1889 and rebuilt after a 1972 flood.

It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.
