LehightonUVO paradesfor veterans

Lehighton's United Veterans Organization held Memorial Day services in Lehighton and Weissport on Monday.

The Lehighton Division formed at the Sgt. Stanley Hoffman Boulevard Monument and proceeded to the Catholic Cemetery.Simultaneously, the Weissport Division began at the monument and proceeded to Union Hill Cemetery for services.After several stops at monuments along the two routes, both divisions met in front of the PFC Clyde R. Houser Jr. Building at the Vietnam Veterans Monument where they saluted, played taps, and paraded to the Lehighton Cemetery for the main service.Lehighton Mayor Thomas Mase gave a welcoming speech and commended all veterans."Too often we fail to remember what they have given up," he said. "We owe each of them the highest regard."The individual branches of the military were recognized, along with all Vietnam veterans who gathered together for recognition.Following the ceremony, the Lehighton UVO paraded to the American Legion Post Home, where a flag-raising ceremony was held along with a salute.
