Lehighton couple celebrating 50 years

Betty and David J. Thomas of Lehighton are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary.

They were married on May 23, 1964, at St. John's Episcopal Church in Palmerton by the Rev. John Diehl IV.Mrs. Thomas is the former Betty Furry, daughter of the late Forrest and Mildred Furry of Palmerton.Mr. Thomas is the son of the late Gordon and Clarentha Thomas of Walnutport.The couple has three children: David J. Thomas II and his wife, Armitta, of Palmerton; Randy S. Thomas and his wife, Christine, of Fogelsville; and Lori K. Shupp, and her husband, Chad Shupp, of Germansville.They have nine grandchildren: Shawn Sterling of Coaldale; Colton Thomas and Bryce Thomas of Palmerton; Erika Thomas, Devin Thomas and Cara Thomas of Fogelsville; Jarrod Shupp of Pittsburgh; and Cheyenne Shupp and Cassidy Shupp of Germansville.The Thomases will celebrate with a Royal Caribbean cruise, followed by a family get-together.Mr. Thomas is retired from Praxair in Stockertown, where he was a truck driver.Mrs. Thomas is retired form her job with Susquehanna Bank in Walnutport.
