Tamaqua students showcase talents

Tamaqua Area School District students showcased their affinity for the arts Thursday night with a middle school art show and a spring choral concert featuring middle and high school students.

Art teacher Kim Woodward said she is very proud of her students, whose work included tempura landscape paintings on canvas, clothing design and commercial artwork."The students had to design a line of clothing, present it to their classmates and also create a marketing plan," said Woodward, who was a clothing designer before getting hired to teach art at Tamaqua 14 years ago. "For the commercial art, they had to re-create their favorite food boxes by learning to draw in grids."The TAHS music department also presented the Spring Choral Concert, including the sixth- through eighth-grade General Chorus, the seventh- and eighth-grade Select Chorus, the Jazz & Concert Chorale, and the TAHS Concert Choir, all under the direction of Choral Director John Buglio.
