Tamaqua man cited after harassing citizens

A Tamaqua man has been cited after he harassed a group of people waiting for a bus on Sunday.

Officers were dispatched to the parking lot at Spruce and Railroad streets, where several people said they were harassed by a male who threatened to smash the windows in their vehicles. The man then threw several rocks onto the lot and walked south behind the former Anchor Deep building.Searching the area, officers saw Carl Francis Rex, 39, of 7 Cherry St., sitting on his porch. Rex approached the officers and asked what they were doing. He appeared to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs. When asked if he was harassing the people waiting for the bus, Rex said he wouldn't harass anyone or throw anything at them. The officer pointed out he hadn't said anything about throwing things. The victims positively identified Rex.Before taking Rex to the police station, officers conducted a pat down search and found two wrapped envelope corners filled with a white substance. Rex said he didn't know what they were and had just found them in the alley. The items were sent to the state police lab for testing.Rex was cited for disorderly conduct. Additional charges are pending the results of the lab tests.
