Palmerton FBLA students compete

They displayed a keen intellect, and a high business acumen well beyond their years.

For their solid showing, a group of Palmerton Area High School Future Business Leaders of America students were recently honored at a banquet in the high school cafeteria.At that time, all the state qualifiers and most active members were presented with awards, according to Jennifer Danzeisen, high school FBLA co-adviser.Danzeisen said the students attended the State Leadership Conference in Hershey from April 6-9, at which time they attended leadership workshops, took open event tests and networked with students from several schools in the state.She said the high school drama club held a bake sale at their production to raise money for students to attend.Danzeisen thanked local community members for their support, as well as Sunny's Pizza in Lehighton and Reliable Auto Body in Whitehall, for their sponsorships of the district's students.The following students received awards for making it to the Top 10 in the state:• Gabe Scott, third place, job interview.• Janel Tracy, Lauren Bock, and Cassie Keiser, fourth place, web design.• Keira Gasper, sixth place, database design.• Juli Garey-Perrine, sixth place, word processing.• Mary Garey-Perrine, eighth place, word processing.• Charles Debski, 10th place, computer applications.• Bryce Andress, 10th place, computer operating systems, open test event.In the process, Danzeisen said Scott and Juli Gari-Perrine qualified for nationals and competed at the FBLA National Conference that ran from June 27 through July 3 in Nashville, Tennessee.Scott, who recently graduated, competed in job interview, while Juli Gari-Perrine, a sophomore, competed in word processing.While neither student placed in the Top 10, Danzeisen said they had a great time, nonetheless.
