Two people have been charged after Mahoning police stopped a vehicle for speeding on Route 209 in Mahoning Township.

When police attempted to stop the vehicle on Thursday, the car drove the wrong way down a one-way street.

When the vehicle finally stopped, the occupants told police they were going to work at Walmart.

The driver of the vehicle, Ryan Thorik of Jim Thorpe, failed sobriety testing and was given a blood test. Results of the test are pending.

The passenger of the vehicle, who was also under the influence of alcohol, provided police with a name of Chad Woodby.

Upon further investigation police, found that the passenger had given a false name and date of birth. Officers confirmed his actual name was Jimmy Woodby, 19, of Jim Thorpe. A records check showed a Carbon County Bench Warrant had been issued for his arrest on March 27.

Thorik has been charged with DUI, speeding, careless driving and driving the wrong way on the road.

Woodby has been charged with false identification to law enforcement and alcohol possession.

Both were arraigned by Magistrate Ed Lewis of Jim Thorpe, and taken to the Carbon County Prison in lieu of $5,000 bail.
