Palmerton Kindergarten registration slated

Palmerton Area School District will hold kindergarten registration for the 2014-2015 school year Monday, Feb. 24 through Wednesday, Feb. 26.

All registrations will take place in the district offices, which are located on the third floor of Parkside Education Center, 680 Fourth St., Palmerton.Those registering are asked to schedule an appointment to register a child by calling Kimberly Ottinger at 610-826-7101 ext. 5023.Appointment times will be scheduled 8:30 to 11 a.m. and 12:30 to 2:45 p.m.Rescheduling appointments due to school delays/closings will be held on Thursday, Feb. 27, and Friday, Feb. 28, if necessary.In the event of inclement weather, please use the following procedure: If there is a two hour school delay, appointments will begin at 10 a.m. Appointments between 8:30 and 10 a.m. will be rescheduled. Also, if school is closed due to snow, appointments will be rescheduled.Children who will be 5 on or before Sept. 1 are eligible for kindergarten for the 2014-2015 school year according to school district policy.There are several forms to complete and/or provide in order to register a child for school. Forms are available online before registration at

www.palmerton.org., or stop by the district office to pick up a registration packet.All of the necessary paperwork may also be completed at registration. A state issued birth certificate or other acceptable proof of age and name is required for a child to be registered.If these papers are not available at the time of registration, the child should still be registered and the documents must be provided before the child will be admitted to school in August.In addition, parent photo ID as well as another proof of residency is required at the time of registration.State law requires that all children entering school for the first time must have written proof of the following immunizations:• 4 doses of Tetanus 1 dose must have been administered on or after the child's fourth birthday• 4 doses of Diphtheria 1 dose must have been administered on or after the child's fourth birthday• 3 doses of Polio• 2 doses of Measles• 2 doses of Mumps• 1 dose of Rubella (German measles)• 3 doses of Hepatitis B• 2 doses of Varicella (Chicken Pox) or a record of having Chicken PoxParents/guardians are advised to bring necessary immunization records to the registration appointment. Proof of immunizations must be provided before a child will be admitted to school.Since all children are now required to have a Social Security number, it is optional to provide the school with this number.Please bring the child with you to registration. While you are completing the registration process, your child will have a vision screening with the school nurse. In addition, a member of the school staff will work with your child and do a kindergarten readiness assessment.
