Marian grad completes Navy training

Navy Seaman Abbey Hill, daughter of Robyn Hill of Lansford and the late James T. Hill, recently graduated from U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, North Chicago, Ill.

She is a 2013 graduate of Marian Catholic High School.During the eight-week program, she completed a variety of training which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety.An emphasis was also placed on physical fitness.One of the events at boot camp is "Battle Stations 21," which gives recruits the skill and confidence they need to succeed in the fleet. Battle Station 21 is designed to galvanize the basic warrior attributes of sacrifice, dedication, teamwork and endurance in each recruit through the practical application of basic Navy skills and the core values of honor, courage andcommitment.Abbey has been assigned to the USS Eisenhower in Norfolk, Va., and will deploy to Italy in September 2015.She has many relatives in the Panther Valley, including her brother Justin and sister Hannah. She is the granddaughter of Mae Fredericks and the late Howie Fredericks, as well as Elaine "Booty" Hill and the late John Hill, all of Lansford.
