Trip down school days Memory Lane

After the business portion of the regular monthly meeting of the Eldred Township Historical Society members had a Show & Share. Because September is Back to School month, members brought items from their past relating to school

Loretta Hawk brought a report card from first grade prepared by her teacher Constance Andrews, who is also a historical society member.Dora Tartar told of being inspired by Andrews to become a teacher also. She shared photos of her part in school plays directed by Andrews. Tartar displayed her Pleasant Valley letter sweater and numerous class photos of some of her first years of teaching.Brenda Dorshimer shared articles about how Pleasant Valley got its name, a 1960 copy of the Bear Facts (a student generated school newspaper) and several examples of fashion items of the day such as "petti pants," and the little white collars worn with sweaters.Janet Gower shared an art project made by historical President Jalene Keiser, an art project directed by Andrews. Joyce Gower also shared some Pleasant Valley pins collected while in high school.Shirley Krum added to the display of memories by showing several school photos and yearbooks.Michelle Kuehner displayed her uniform and school jacket from her days as a member of the Pleasant Valley Silks division of the high school band. Her daughters shared some art projects as part of their current school experiences.The Show & Share concluded with Andrews sharing several generations of reading textbooks and told of the differences in content and style of illustrations.
