Charges filed against Luzerne controller

Harrisburg, PA - Attorney General Kathleen G. Kane announced Friday that criminal charges have been filed against Luzerne County Controller Walter Griffith. Griffith faces three counts of Interception of Wire, Electronic or Oral Communications.

Investigators say Griffith recorded three conversations without the permission or knowledge of the other party or parties. That is a violation of the Wiretapping and Electronic Surveillance Control Act.Griffith secretly recorded a conference call on July 8, 2010, an executive session of the Luzerne County Retirement Board on Aug. 2, 2010 and a telephone call on March 29, 2011, according to investigators.Each count is a felony of the third degree.The charges have been filed before District Judge Martin Kane. The case will be prosecuted in Luzerne County by Senior Deputy Attorney General Anthony Forray
