WPCL blood drive

The Western Pocono Community Library, Brodheadsville, will host a Miller-Keystone blood drive from noon until 6 p.m., Wednesday, May 15; Wednesday, May 22; as well as on May 29.

Pleasant Valley High School Academic Awards ceremony begins tonight at 6:15 p.m. and is by reservation only. Athletic Awards will be presented Wednesday, May 22 at 6:15 p.m.

Zion's Seniors meet

The Senior Citizen's Group of Zion Lutheran Church will meet at 11 a.m., Thursday, May 16.

PVMS Band concert

The Pleasant Valley Middle School band concert will be presented at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, May 16.

Park work day

A work day will take place beginning 8:30 a.m. Saturday to move some stone at the Community Park. Dump trailers with tractors to pull, along with manpower with rakes, will make short work of it.

Run for the Red

The Run for The Red Marathon course has been changed due to road work. The marathon is Sunday, May 19. It will now start at Pocono Raceway in Long Pond and will be going through Chestnuthill Township and will go down Merwinsburg Road.

Residents should be aware of runners on the road and traffic may be stopped at some points so patience is asked. The marathon starts around 8 a.m. and should be in the Effort churches area St. John's Lutheran and Effort UMC around 10:30 a.m.

Effort UMC will hold its next Contemporary Praise Service at 9:45 a.m., Sunday, May 19.

Special celebrations

Zion Lutheran Church, Brodheadsville, will celebrate Pentecost on Sunday, May 19, as well as Confirmation and the last day of Sunday School. Confirmation will take place at the 8 a.m. worship service and a Confirmation Social will be held in the parish hall at 9:15 a.m.

Assembly of God

Pleasant Valley Assembly of God's Tapestry, a women's ministry, will feature guest speaker Kelly Carver at 7 p.m., Monday, May 20. Her topic will be Get Your Praise On. The Pleasant Valley Middle School chorus concert will be presented at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, May 21.

PVEN needs

Not only does the Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network help families with food and clothes, but there is a request for towels, blankets, toothpaste/brushes and soap. One may bring items to one's supporting church or deliver them to the PVEN Tuesdays or Fridays, from 9 to 11:30 a.m.

In honor of Richard Wagner's 200th birthday, the library will be show his "Der fliegende Holländer" or "The Flying Dutchman Opera" at 1 p.m., Wednesday May 22.
