Another appeal for financial support was issued by the Diligence Fire Company No. 1 of Summit Hill.

Paul Yuricheck, financial secretary, said the 2013 fund drive, which began in March, is still underway.He said there were 1,460 letters mailed to borough families and businesses, with 640 - less than 44 percent - being answered.Yuricheck said the fire company set a goal of $30,000 at the beginning of the fund drive and at the present time it is doubtful that amount will be reached."Our fire company serves the entire community, and the financial support should be community wide," he said.Yuricheck said that in conjunction with the fund drive mail campaign, the Diligence Fire Company No. 1 hopes to obtain vital information from the people they protect.He said in particular, the company is focusing its attention on knowing where the elderly, handicapped, and young children reside.Information about family pets is also being sought.After all the information is collected, it will be compiled. Each piece of apparatus will have a copy of the information, including street address and the type of handicap fire department personnel should anticipate - including residents requiring wheel chairs, individuals crippled by arthritis, people with asthma, people on oxygen, etc.Yuricheck said every year nearly 7,000 people die in fires."In Pennsylvania alone, nearly 300 people fall victim to fire each year," he said, adding that often the victims are the handicapped, the elderly, and children.Fund drive contributions and survey information can be mailed to: Diligence Fire Company No. 1, 114 W.
